I don’t have a multitool in my PSK because I always carry one on my belt. It used to be a Leatherman PST II, but now I carry a Leatherman Ti Charge.

on a side note I saw this yesterday. might find it's way into my kit:

Eh, personally I wouldn’t pack that. It’s too big. A better option are some scalpel blades. I buy ‘em from a guy at the gunshow for $.50 each. They are very thin, and sealed and sterile so they can do double duty for medical use as well. You would get a lot more “edge for the space”. You can also get them with various blade shapes to accomplish different tasks. I think you can get ‘em on eBay. On a related note, eBay is a great source for medical supplies for your first aid kits. If you’d like to see my PSK to see the scalpel blades I’m talking about, see here: My PSK (Lots of pics) (the scalpel is above the foil wrapped bar of soap in the medical kit)

A somewhat similar item that I found a while back is a folding hacksaw. I got it at Walmart for a couple bucks. It has two blades, one for wood and one for metal. The blades could also be used to strike your flint rod with. A hacksaw might not be as helpful in the woods, but it might be useful in a city BOB.

I have some scalpel blades in my kit know. Their only problem is they are hard to get a grip on.

Personally I would ditch the multitool in the PSK. You're probably better off with a decent swiss army knife like the Explorer. Multitools are nice, I have several. However, they're best employed as an around the house/farm/worksite/battlefield tool.

Ask yourself and be honest, where you will need a set of plyers in the wilderness, or several screw drivers, or a file etc.... Personally, and this is just my opinion, I think that space and weight would be better served by something else. However, if you are packing a piece of potential life saving equipment such as a firearm, stove, radio etc... then the equation changes.

My own philosophy on a PSK is to only take along the things you absolutely need for the environment that you'll likely be in. It's easy to pack along the kitchen sink. However, that gets old realy quick and pretty soon you start leaving things behind. Your PSK will do you no go if it's at home on the kitchen table because it's too big and bulky to take along. Keep it as simple and as small as possible.

Dems my two pennies.

if, your car breaks down a multitool is better than nothing. i used the wave at camp to saw poles for an awning, open cans, whittle, and move hot pots and lids. it is the best camp tool available.

Have you checked out the Ti Charge? I decided to choose it over the Wave. It’s the same as the Wave, with a few upgrades. It has a better knife steel (154cm), titanium scales, and bronze brushings (so the tools don’t “clump”). Other than that, it’s a Wave. I got mine on eBay, and paid about half what they cost new.
