I am not bashing the Busse knives. If you look at my post there is a big smile. I just think a company that makes knives out of custom steel should stick with that steel. I love the INFI and the other. I see no reason they cant make a super heavy duty folder. I know I could use a duty folder that would take the abuse of a fixed blade busse. I can't go walking around on duty with a Battle Mistress strapped to my leg. The chief would have a heart attack. I know a heavy Busse folder would not only be a hit but a GREAT service to us Police and military people. On the SV30 steel I find it very hard to sharpen. It also chips easy. A 3/16 INFI blade about 3.5 or 4 inches and about an inch wide would be perfect.

I am pretty confident Busse "Could" make a great folder. And I am very confident INFI in particular would be great for a folder blade - but with one possible potential issue:

I tend to like stainless in my folders. I don't like rust and folders are more prone to rust and harder to maintain. So, I would be leary of SR-101 or SR-77 for a folder. INFI would be borderline for low maintenance in my book.

One significant problem I see with an INFI folder is PRICE! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Based on the prices for a simple little Game Warden or AD, I wouldn't be surprised if an INFI folder went for $350 - $450. .... That doesn't work for me! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" />

Another question for me is: What would the size and shape of the knife be?

For some people a bulky folder may not be an issue. For me, it is.

No doubt - whatever Busse could or would make would fill a given niche somewhere.

But, I tend to speak for myself. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

For me - I prefer folders with:

- 3.75" - 4.25" blades
- in as small and light-weight (maximize blade to handle ratio),
- yet strong as possible handle,
- with excellent ergonomics,
- great blade design,
- smooth blade movement,
- well designed thumb "Stud" with good access to stud,
- strong lock - but easy to release,
- good - yet simple and functional clip design
- and a clip and scale material that allow for smooth entry and removal from my pocket!
- ... oh and comfortable while "IN" my pocket as well! (I love my RUKUS, but even after many modifications, it still can cause some sore spots when sitting. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

.... I don't ask for too much. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I actually picked up three EDI Genesis I's from a gentleman who bought all of their remaining stock when they went under. He assembles small batches, and brings them to gun shows. He said he is planning to resurect the company.

I was really trying to goat them into making or giving away so info on a folder that might be in the works. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

PSG,

Dan and Jerry obviously don't like giving out info.... even their hints suck!

If Dan or Jerry were to tell us something about a folder, we probably wouldn't know they were talking about a folder. At this point, I can't even be sure Dan is talking about knives (?????) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

For example.... what is this:

...Numbers and Letters...tons and tons of numbers and letters.

I torched my back, blew out my spleen, and can now do full splits, only dogs and cats can hear me speak but it's all mine my friends...all mine...and soon to be yours

Now I need to see doctor Jack about my back.

Or this

OOH its shiney, crazy, quantity challenged, shiney, from a small family, thick, rabid, shiney, wicked, knights in white will like this...did I mention shiney.

Many people spent many hours and pages of posts trying to figure these things out. Bottom line: Nobody has a clue.

For all we know this is just a bunch of jibber garble - Red Hearing - distraction stuff.

Maybe they are afraid of commitment (??????) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

If a folder is going to come, we most likely won't really know anything until it is ready to ship.

Decent enough. Going rounds with VA...as usual. The Mental Midgets are messing with my physical therapy. They can't fax a referral to my therapist and suggest I come by to get one. Did I mention I live 400 miles from the hospital where I got the surgery. I go on Thursday for a follow up and to get the referral. So I have been doing all I can, but careful not to push too hard....but then again I don't know what is too hard because I have yet to see a therapist.

But on a good note, the wife and I get to hear the "bun in the oven's" heartbeat on Wednesday. Also we have been looking at property around the parish we live in. Really looking at 10 acres of woods to call my own.

That is a great moment when you get to hear the heart beat...good for you guys.

How is the little one handling the fact that they are going to have a little brother or sister?

Best of luck with the VA

Dan

I don't personally own the Spyderco Manix - I don't care to have a lock-back for an EDC folder and I don't like thumb-holes.

I must admit I was a little leery about the thumb hole at first, and it took me a long time to get used to the lock back because my previous EDC was an Emerson with a liner lock. The lock on this thing is so solid, it sounds like a gun action going into battery when you open it.

Once I got used to those changes everything was great. The only thing I'd do differently next time is not get the combo-edge. The S30V takes such a great edge, the serrations are not really needed. I cut a lot of line at work and thought I needed them but I find that I don't.

There are only 2 things I don't like about this knife, and I plan to fix one of them.

They are: Thumb hole is so large, it makes the spine arch and folded, the knife is very wide. With a stud, this knife would be much more pocket-friendly.

The other thing is it would be nice to have a little more traction grooving cut into the frame and liners along the bottom, and particularly on the top at the butt end for the stab grip.

-C.

edit: minor changes in wording because it's too early to make sense the first time 'round.
