I don't just sit around all day admiring my shiny new knives....well some days I do. It's been too hot for me to do yard work lately. Today, da yoots are in school and its in the low 90s. Got some clearing, chopping, and spitting to do.
I had not really tested my Yard Guard much since I reprofiled the edge and shined it up. Scrap Yards are users, not safe queens, even the shiny ones.

Let's see what this wicked edge can do.
[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]
For starters, I chopped up this sumac tree that had blown down at my driveway.
[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]
No problem for the Yard Guard.
[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]
Mmmmm, sumac salad.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Let's try it on some hard dry oak. Took quite a few chops, but it isn't a Dog Father. Good camp knife.

Found some fat lighter. Sawed it up. Time to baton the Yard Guard and split this hard heart pine!
[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]
Got it stuck in this one gnarly piece and had to beat it out! Maybe smaller bites. There, thats enough for now.
[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]
The YG may be dirty and beaten, but not beat. This baby will still shave. This is why we buy Scrap Yard knives, anyway.

The Yard Guard isn't going to be as heavy duty as the DF, but I still feel that the Yard Guard is very comparable to the Camp Tramp in weight, balance and function....for so many of those who are crying for not getting a Camp Tramp.
The Yard Guard is a bargain compared to current Camp Tramp Prices.

Love that Satin Finish <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for the pics. It is nice to see the knives hard at work.

Man you did a great job on refinishing that YG Vic. It looks like it made short work of all that stuff.

I am impressed with the Yard Guard's toughness. I beat the heck out of it on that fat lighter. I wondered how the thinner edge would hold up to such hard use. It still shaves. I love the Res C handle for any knife I'm going to chop with. My hand stings, but think how much worse it would with the "prettier" Uncle Mojo. I had to beat on the handle some, too. Dislodging the knife from that big chunk of fat lighter was a chore. No damage. Just a few scratches. I washed the knife in the sink with my dishes using Dawn and a Scotchbrite pad to remove the resin. Dried it and gave it a quick buff on the Scotchbrite wheel to get all the scratches running in the same direction (satin finish). Coated the blade with some WD-40 and called it good. If the Camp Tramp can chop its way out of a jeep, the Yard Guard should be able to do a Hummer. Still better than new.

Very nice HD. Thanks for the pics. They motivated me to want to use mine more. When I was looking for an extra HRLM last night for a friend, I got my Yard Guard out and will be giving it a good beating on my next trip out! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I had work to do anyway. Might as well get a Yard Test in while I'm at it. It is beginning to grow on me. That big bad recurve doesn't belong in a drawer some place. Have fun with yours, Kirk. I am sure your friend will appreciate that HRLM.

HD your the man. Your YG looks fantastic. I wish i had the funds at the time to pic one of those bad boys up but no dice. Same goes for a S6. Keep up the great work can't wait to see your next project.

Glad y'all liked the review. I had some fun with the YG. If I were standed in the wilderness, I'd take it over any of the little survival knives I own.
