I think maybe what Dan also fails to realise is that most of us also post articles and pics on OTHER knife sites about ScrapYard knives thus spreading the word and increasing his sales that way !!!

Its not a big deal folks, this site wont die if you just talk about Wauseon blades, really it wont.

Go tell that to the SwampRat forum <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif" alt="" />

Okay, I guess I will throw my humble opinion into this. Dan, everyone knows you make fantastic knives, the one thing I like (or liked depending on what happens) about this forum is that is was differant than your sister and parent company forums. It is your house and you make the rules however you should realize like Dice said that your knives are discussed as much if not more on other forums like Justin's than his knives or other knives are talked about here. Also, it is not like you are loosing business over it, you said your self you are having a hard time keeping up with the orders you already have and if anything by alienating people here and handcuffing us as to what we can and can't discuss is going to drive more people away. I basically hang out at 2 forums and the one thing that seperated this one from Swamprat is that the people here were all down to earth and not affraid to discuss other knives.
Your blades are truely great, everyone knows this and you should have confidence enough in your product to not worry about other companies. It really isn't hurting your business at all, I can promise you that as soon as you release your blades regardless of the topic line here they will all sell, you have a very devoted fan base and should really take heart in some of the posts here to keep it that way. That is what makes your blades stand above the other in the Busse line.
cheers and no disrespect intended by this post
SB

Diceman made some good points, it would be sad if we only talk about SYKCO blades. I think they are great but so are other brands. In the end it will look like the Busse forum, lots of threads about how great they are and how fantastic they look but nothing that graps my attention. Here at the yard it was fun because you didn't know what to expect. I ordered a ranger because of the recommendations from guys on this forum, why not. Hasn't stopped me from buying dogs in the past.

Dan,

reconsider, you might kill the forum.

Nope, I haven't been in a couple weeks. Prior to that I went every day, but nothing changed. I do still go to the BF sub forum and it has picked up a little.

I need to cut back on my forum participation also, so if someone would be kind enough to email me when Dan gives the 24 hour notice I'd appreciate it.

it's dan's forum...he'll do with it as he pleases.

it's a shame that such a blow had to be dealt to my favorite forum. it was never about the knives.

i've made no conclusions about what comes next. no one likes restrictions, so i can understand being upset or leaving. the mistake may have been on our part in making ourselves so comfortable on a commercial forum. this ain't starbucks. i never liked starbucks.

IMHO...
i have been introduced to some of the kindest folks ive ever "met" on the web
here on "the yard"

i mean no disrespect

but we can only talk about a yard guard & yard hook sooo long. we are "knife guys" and we buy knives often.

+1 Vance.

Let's not get too carried away here guys. I'm not asking anyone to leave or to stop posting. I usually like the "off topic" discussions more than the "on topic" discussions as well. I have no problem with off topic discussions whatsoever as long as they do not cross political or religious lines.

What I am asking is to try and keep the focus on Scrap Yard knives when it is knife related material. While we certainly appreciate the promoting of Scrap Yard knives on other forums in an effort to "spread the word" we do not want to see other maker's or manufacturer's forums being inundated with our name and promotions. Feel free to do it as often as you like on any of the general knife forums and testing forums that are out there. It's a matter of respect for others who are trying to make a living at making knives. We do not want to leave a sour taste in the eye of the public as a bunch of rebel rousers.

We all know that Scrap Yard knives can stand alone on their reputation. I'm only asking that there be a level of respect shown, not only here, but elsewhere also.

I apologize if this has ruffled anyone's feathers and assure you that it was never meant to.

We have a great family here. I don't need to tell you guys that, since you are the ones who have made this family come together.

We have never allowed the degrading of other knife companies or makers on the Scrap Yard forum and we never will. We are a family based forum and need to follow a certain level of decorum.

I can assure you that my request is not based on any imagined fear that the Yard is going to lose business to other makers or manufacturers either. The more the merrier! The more our passion for knives grows, the better. And that includes knives from all other manufacturers. It should not be difficult for most to understand that when new customers come to the Scrap Yard forum that they are coming here to learn more about Scrap Yard knives.

I, personally, do not want to go to an AR-15 forum and be forced to wade through endless posts and topics about Remington 700s, Ruger Mini-14s, 1911s, etc. when they have nothing to do with AR-15s . . . Comparison reviews are great because they have the content of the forums designation and I know that I would appreciate it much more, and find the value of the post more easily if I'm a new guy.. . . I hope that clears up any misconceptions about my initial post.

Thanks,

Dan
