I've thought about that, and while I hope that I don't sound like a jerk, I'd worry about potential problems. I wouldn't expect to make money on the deal, but I also wouldn't be willing to loose money. Would I need to collect the money up-front (which, if I was the one sending the money to a stranger, would concern me) or wait until afterward (which, as the one fronting the money, would definitely concern me)? Then there's the whole "packing up and shipping thing", which is bad enough in the US, but there are several Canadians as well as others, where I think there's extra paperwork and potential problems with their country's customs inspectors/tariffs. There's also the "what if the package doesn't arrive" scenario, so do I force folks to buy insurance?

I was tempted to offer to help out ColdOne in his quest for the SHBM, but the proxy process would be daunting enough for me with friends who I'd known in-person for a long time and have serious money-trust with. One might say that I have trust issues, but financial transactions with people who I don't know very well are outside my comfort-zone.

I'm one of those people who prefer to pay by credit card, not because I carry a balance (because I don't) but because I can file a claim with the card issuer as a last resort if something goes wrong. I almost always expect the worst, and am continuously and pleasantly surprised that it doesn't happen more often.

is the rat trap really that great? or is part of it's appeal just that it's a swamp rat folder. if the name on it said spyderco, would everyone still be as interested in it. i've never had the opportunity to inspect one first hand but talking to someone that has i didn't get the OMG i need to have this knife vibe.
