It was in the 80s here in Mid TN today...too warm for October, but I've seen warm Octobers before. One of my observations over the past several years has been tha we don't seem to have much of a Spring or Fall any more... It's either Hot or Cold, but winters are never what they used to be when I was a kid though...
My old sleds are rotting in the barn... there's never enough snow to use them these days...

I am with you Vic, it's still in the 90s here in Aridzona. Not a darn green thing in sight. I need some green shrubery and cooler temps myself.
don't some of your neighbors have green gravel in their front yards? that has to count for something. My neighbor has a green car, but other than that, all I see is dirt.

I like middle TN. It's almost north enough. Does it snow at least once a year? Pretty country. I got snowed in TN in the Winter of '76. That was the year the Ohio River froze. Ah, the good old days, when Al Gore was just a TN senator and he hadn't invented the internet and global warming yet.

Yep it usually snows once or twice...just not enough and it usually doesn't stay very long these days... I can remember being out of school for a week or two at a time as a kid, these days the kids are lucky if they get more than a day out for snow...I just wish people around here would learn how to drive in it or stay off the road. We get flurries and chaos ensues. It is nice country though, I've lived here all my life and I've thought about moving a couple of times, but I'm sure I'd miss it if I did.

It snowed then (1950s). Both of my parents are from TN and I can remember a few white Christmases at my grandparents homes in west TN. Back in 1988 or 89 we had a snow here. Funniest thing. Bubbas and bubbettes wrecking their cars and trucks all day. No clue. I know it gets plenty hot in TN and KY, but not as humid as here. This place is like the tropics. Just had a thundershower to cool things down a bit. I am ready for Al Gore to invent Global Cooling. I do like Tennessee, though.

See y'all up here in Montana soon, plenty of room! Montana is on my short list. Thing is, the only real cold weather experience I have is in Germany and some in TN and KY. I will be a very old novice in cold weather survival. Montana gets much colder than Germany. I'm sure Cabela's will be happy to sell me the appropriate attire. I don't even own any long johns anymore! But I have seriously considered Montana. If global warming continues, it may be the perfect climate!

Vic, if Al Gore would not have invented the Internet I would not have moved to Phoenix for a computer job to live through 110 plus summers. I would still be living on the beach in San Diego living in a one bedroom appt. Talk about nice weather, San Diego rules. Thanks big Al...

I lived in Escondido for a year, but it was not as good as San Diego. Al Gore has ruined our lives.

When I was growing up the big three threats (not counting cold-war nuclear annihilation) were: 1) Pollution (remember the Chief Iron Eyes Cody Keep America Beautiful PSA) 2) Overpopulation (and the associated resource depletion -- it requires a lot of raw material to keep pollution at #1) and 3) An imminent and overdue Ice Age (which I guess might solve the other two with a heavy winter kill, resulting in fewer people to pollute -- of course, civilization would also end but that's just the price you pay for a cleaner world).
I'm not able to say that there's no such thing as Global Warming, but I am suspicious of the Neo-Luddites that tend to be at the forefront of that issue. They often seem hypocritical when flying on private jets to meet and say that the rest of us should be riding bicycles and public transit, whether it exists or not.
Most industry is much cleaner than when I was growing up, but still they want to close it down -- if people don't work, how are they going to live.
They want to stop people from encroaching on the environment, but do they have a plan for what to do with the people? Maybe when they get issued their bike, they'll also be allocated a fixed square footage of living space in the collectives that'll replace those evil "factory farms". Hey, people are animals too!!
Pardon my rant, but while I admit that I don't know the answers, I also believe that the "government should regulate people's actions rather than safeguard their freedoms" crowd (like Gore) have been trying to scare people into believing that the world is ending when I just don't believe that's the case. I expect that soon enough, some other doomsday scenario will replace Global Warming, who knows, maybe it'll be zombies.

I think we can do a lot without having to give up the good things about civilization. I would like to see more people drive motorbikes ,quads and the new side by sides that only have 800CC's but are a blast to drive and would be a perfect second vehicle. It would not take much changes to our suburbs to make them 100% better just grow vegtables etc instead of the huge lawns. I am buying a piece of land and plan to eat more wild meat and local food from the Hutterite colony.
I totally admire the Mormons and Hutterites etc wo have decided to live a simpler life closer to god than most people. I sometimes thuink they have the right idea. Interestingly the LDS church has said that the best most fair view of the church was on South Park.
I also like the show Big Love. Personally more than one wife seems like a lot of responsiblity but I don't know if it is much worse than the way we do it. When a man in our society wants a young new wife he abandons the old one.

A couple things... 1) As a Californian now living in the Northwest, I'd like to point out that you're only allowed to move here if you promise not to tell anyone how great it is. 2) I highly recommend 'Colapse' by Jared Diamond (author of 'Guns, Germs, and Steel') for a mostly-objective discussion of societal impacts (both good and bad) on the environment.
