My 109 lb 5'6" 16 year old daughter just made the Varsity Wrestling Team today at Glynn Academy High School. Not the "girls" wrestling team. THE wrestling team. I am so proud of her! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

There is always going to be that, but she took down a 180 lb senior boy in practice the other day. She has been coming home sore and beat up the last two weeks. Bigger girls and stronger guys gave up. I did not encourage this anymore than I did the opera lessons, but the girl has her own mind and a lot of spunk.

Wow HD why were there no girls like that when I was in wrestling. I remember nothing but sweaty heavy guys with gender issues(why I quit wrestling).

i would think that all things being equal, being a female wrester has some advantages. might have guys second guessing about where their hands are going during the match.
or even if they aren't, if you get in trouble during the match, just shout out "he's squeezing my nipples" the shock of hearing that would probably make the opponent stop for a second, providing you with the window to attack.

The first thing I taught my daughters was "Girls are good boys are bad" The next thing I taught them is there is only one man they will ever meet in their life that they can trust

She does not look like a wrestler. Her coach asked her where she learned martial arts. All I ever taught her was how to shoot and stick knives. I think she learned it all from wrestling her very livey little sister and watching Bruce Lee movies. Both she and her sister wrestle each other all the time. They are very fast and flexible. They can wiggle out of about any thing. Their mother was like that. I am still very proud of her, though.

I can't remember if I have told this story before on here, my oldest daughter is almost 19. About a year ago before she started going out with her first (and current) boyfriend, they hung around together with a few others. One day she and I were sparring in the kitchen, dining room and living room, Brandon said "Your dad is just playing with you" she laughed and said I know. They started sparring and I had to stop him as he was funny to watch (he had a rep as a tough nut in school I'm told) Without thinking I said I would show him a couple of moves, He was very suprised what an old fat guy could do. He then said that's why he wore combat boots as all he needed to do was use them. I said go ahead try, after a couple of well place muay tai kicks he figured out that wouldn't always work. He then turned to my daughter and said your dad could kill me like nothing.
I told him just remember what happened here, you wouldn't last a minute with me, and I am not even tough. 15, 20 years ago I was tough, I wouldn't last 5 minutes with the me of 15 years ago. The next time you are in a bar (he was 20 and drinking age is 19 in BC) and you're thinking of starting something, just remember what can happen if that guy IS TOUGH
After they started going out I told him, I like you a lot and you are a nice kid, you may also think that I am a nice guy, but remember if you ever hurt my daughter, that will not mean anything to me. I am giving you fair warning that the only thing that is important to me is my family and my daughters are at the top of the list
