Cute little puppy. My mom used to put a wind up clock in bed with a new puppy. She said the ticking clock made the puppy think it was the heartbeats of its former litter mates. This is definitely in the "for what it's worth" category.

I've heard that one, but with the addition of a hot water bottle for warmth to replicate the heat from the Mom and other puppies.

I'll bet that if you spend a lot of time holding him, he'll come around! Gotta get that "attachment" started.

Jerr,
At 8 weeks Scouts cousin Black River Max II or Max as we call him was filed with roundworms, and had caught ringworm on his right rear leg. Lost hair, itched, diarrhea for the next 6 weeks while being on antibiotics,re-wormed 5 times and dealing with one ball and a heart murmur.

[Linked Image from i167.photobucket.com]

Smoke went up for Max, NO more Parasites at all!!

Other nut came down, the heart mummer that was pronounced has gone away completely. Now that he has bowel control..."no medicine induced diarrhea" he goes potty OUTSIDE like a good boy!

He makes NO POTTY IN THE HOUSE.

B I G turning point that took until 14 weeks. Now he is healthy as a horse.

We will pray for Scout and he will be fine very soon. Congratulations on such a beautiful Lab.

He just turned 18 weeks old Saturday!

Labs are nice dogs. Max is our first!

Peace.

Glad to hear Max is doing much better. Was he a stray/rescue?

Labs are great animals. Sienna aka Butthead out 17 month old female goes with us everywhere, and I mean everywhere. She travels easily, loves to be outside wtih us, isn't a barker, loves people, etc.... They really are a go anywhere do anything dog.

By Christmas Max should be teething. Have fun with that. Use hot pepper wax or oil on your furnature and he won't go after it. That bitter apple stuff, and no bite solution that you see in pet stores is crap, it doesn't work.

In the pic above he looks focused and attentive. That's a good sign. It usually means that obedience training will take pretty easily. And I do recommend training, it makes our job as owners easier.

As he gets bigger he'll become harder to control on a leash. Contrary to popular belief Labs wern't bred to retreive bird for hunters. They were originally bred to retreive fishing nets full of fish for fishermen in Labrador. They're deisgned to pull, and pull they will.

Look into a collar called a Gentle Leader it makes them so easy to manage. And yes it really does work. I'm starting scout on his training today. It also helps you establish control and dominance over your dog. Even though you see your dog as a pet, he sees you as part of his pack.

Peace
Jerry

Many thanks for the smoke guys. It was a rough night for scout. He whinned and cried in his crate quite a bit. It took him about an hour to calm down, of course it started all over again when we went out to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

I've got a plan for today though. He go into his crate a various time to get use to it and realize that we're no leaving him and we will come back.
