I've never handled a Badger. So I cannot comment there. However, I do have experience with both the DM and RMD. If I had to choose one I'd go with the RMD.
The RMD is much thinner allowing for much easier cutting. Cutting, after all is the primary purpose of a knife. At 3/16 of an inch it's still plenty stout for batoning. And it's full size handle makes it comfortable to use. In addition the brass pins and lanyard hole make lashing the knife easier if you needed to make a spear.

The DM will chop better than the RMD. However, neither one chops especially well. And the DM will pry better than the RMD. However, I've never needed to use a knife to pry. The downside to the DM is in its ability to cut as well as the RMD.

I like the Ratmandu and Urban Mutt better, but I have not actually used the Badger Attack. There is only one way to settle this for me. Next comparison will be these three Busse-made knives, slicing, chopping, notching, and batoning. The RMD fits my hand perfectly, but it is heavier and larger overall than the DM or UM. And the Badger Attack has that broad blade and big handle. It is time I found out what each of them can do in yard. I'm sure they all have their strengths. Should be fun. For "urban" survival tests, I guess a little prying and sticking are in order, eh? And maybe ease of concealed carry. The Badger Attack feels like a "Survival Knife", like the excellent Gerber LMF 2, which from personal testing I have respect for. I can't wait to see the results... I'd have to agree with many here, DM for Urban due to the thicker blade, and RMD in the bush because of the thinner blade and handle design. I don't have enough experience with the BATAC to be sure about how I'd rate it yet.

The Dumpsted Mutt.
Mine cuts,slices,and dices and chops.

It is thick enough to use as a spear on a stick.

It can be used as a leg up in climbing.

And it is completly non slip so I would never loose my grip.

And it is a Scrap Yard Knife.

I rest my case.

Peace.

Some people just never learn.

Because I love the HD tests so much, I'd love to see a side match (evening gown competition perhaps for the) between the DMLE and the Grohmann Survival (that I think has been in HD's posession for over a month with no report yet). Do the pretty keep up with the purposefull? OK, I know the Grohmann isn't in the same class, but it is a survival knife with classic lines! I took the Grohmann out of its box today and beat it up, just for you, mtrspeed. I still haven't tested my Ritter, Nimravus (except on cardboard boxes), Buck Strider Solution, or Al Mar SERE either. If I do it on this forum, it will have to be in a comparison. The Buck is a beast.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

With that wide, sharp ATS-34 blade, it will surely be a performer, Bruce. The handle is kind of clunky. I may reprofile it and round it off some. The knife is impressive. I got a kydex sheath for it. I used the orignial Solution sheath for my new Urban Mutt, after adjusting the liner. I want to pit the solution against the equally beastly Ranger RD4. Might compare them to the DMLE in a future test. I would not hesitate to take any of those into the bush.

Thanks for adding the G to the mix, Vic. It made my morning to see it at the top of the post list when I checked-in. As others have said, the results of your testing make me even more anxious for DMLE arrival... mine is "in the mail", as the saying goes! I plan for it to be a user and figured it would be about the perfect combo of size and ability for highly-mobile backcountry exploits. Add a CS light machete (which I also love) and a 3" folder and I'll be in great shape for NW brush bashing. | | |

My old combo was a CS Kukri, Bucklite lockback, and SAK Recruit. But I am now too old and fat to be as "highly mobile" as I was. But I still enjoy testing them out when I get a chance. The wood in my yard is the same as the wood in the Altamaha swamps. So many knives to test, so little time. Glad you enjoyed the comparison. Enjoy that new DMLE. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/Survival001.jpg)

The Solution certainly looks like a beast. My question is how well the ATS-34 steel will hold up to your testing. I have no doubt that the Urban Mutt and the RD4 will take everything you can throw at them and then some. We shall see. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/Survival004.jpg)

I'll be the odd man out here. I'm going to go with me BATAC SE. It is much thicker at the spine that the CG version yet tapers nicely towards the edge to make it a nasty slicer. Decent chopper in pinch.
However, I have not yet handled or used a RM yet so I can not comment on it. But I like the looks of it. All great blades.

None of the three yet. I don't have any, so I would die if those were the only choices.I am waiting on my DMLE, so I guess that one will be my choice.

From the looks, and the reports, I think the badger might be the heaviest duty of the three, so I would choose that one, if they were being given away.
