No.
From what I know about military contracts: they are very unstable. Some days, the armies (naval, ground, marine, air) don't order anything. Some days, they order a hell lot of things in a very short time so that the company can't supply this sudden demand.
By keeping the company small, they can survive from low demand during days, weeks or months.
i only mention the military contracts to show that the busse knife co is friggin loaded. if anybody thinks otherwise they're crazy. military contracts are hard to get and they pay a LOT. yes they can be sporadic BUT busse doesn't rely on only military orders. their base is still in retail and that they do incredibly well don't ya say? the military orders are just the very big, very lucrative cherry on top. i fully understand slowing down production on retail orders for military orders BUT when the regular production just isn't cutting it, why not expand? it's not a coincidence that demand is always greater than supply. what better way to increase the value of a model than to discontinue it and never offer a new one until 5 years later? SFNOs go for like 400 a pop and they were offered not too long ago. but people know we'll have to wait like 7 years before we see a new one. this makes people pay the ridiculous resale prices if they want one. obviously jerry knows how to do business...

Let them do as they do......their Businesses thrive and the majority...nearly ALL of the consumers are VERY happy. I wouldn't give 2 hoots if they get their sales practice information from Ms. Cleo!!! They produce the very best there is and it is readily available...I never said ..."[censored] I wish I could find ....." I can always find it....being able to afford it is another matter. The hunt is half the fun and beating these blades like they are responsible for the concept of Daylight savings time is even more fun! If I have to pay a premium for a blade I want...it is just that...I want it....so I will pay it if I see fit!

People complain that they can't buy that 57 chevy at retail cost either....it was made and it was discontinued. If you were there for the time then good for you...if you want one today....get ready to take a loan out. These aren't life essential items...if everyone could own one it would take the mystique out of owning one. Yes it is unfortunate that folks have to pay "scalper" prices.....if you are in a rush to get one then that is what you have to do....if you wait patiently, make a few friends, then every blade will present its self to you. I have sold a number of knives to a number of people for cost and even a few at a personal loss to me.
Only the ones quick to jump are the ones who get burned on the aftermarket. Patience and connections will bring better deals.
If you are not around for the initial release ..oh well, your time will come. If you are, then good for you.

Your point is well taken, Gravelface. Problem is, a lot of people would love to own Jerry's products and would do so gladly if only they could obtain them at factory pricing. But the last thing Jerry seems to care about is whether you or anyone else has a fair chance to get them. And when the scalpers move in and spoil the market for those who may not be financially as well off as you, resentments are sure to grow. strangely enough, the Bowie often was used as a scalper, or preferred scapling blade. That said, months notice, then 48hr notice and again 24hr notice, if the first guy on the sight buys every DF the yard has.. it would suck, but it would be fair imo (a questionable investment, but fair nonetheless). The "fair" arguement in general is questionable at best.

It isn't that Jerry doesn't care, it is that he has no control over it. Frankly I like the fact that his knives are made inruns. When Jerry makes a knife, everyone has a shot at it while it is in production for several months. No one can say that it is not available. If you choose not to buy it and later want it, then you will pay a premium. What I don't care for is when a knife sells out so fast that you never even had a chance at it. But again, if they choose not to make many there is nothing that can be done. The Unscrupulous buyer/seller who buys many just to resell will do so and your only choice is not to buy from him, but someone else probably will. I choose not to make that kind of person a friend as they just prey on othrs. But I may have to deal with them even if I don't like them

The problem is that the system is pretty fair.
I'm going to get my knife because I'm going to do what it takes.
If you can't afford one, or you can only afford 1, that is your problem.
If a guy can afford 27, why shouldn't he be able to buy them?
If he's faster than you, what gives you the right to complain?
How could the system be more fair? Just take away the notice that Dan has given on the web site.
I don't think many people would devote weeks or months to hit f5.
What would that do to your chances?
Arf arf arf... That's my other dog impression.

Well,
I could tell you that demand will outstrip the supply once again. That always happens with a product of great value and modest pricing. Knowing that this is a small operation, I don't mean to hurt your feelings Dan and Patti, you will have to wait for certain items to get back into production rotation.
If you cannot wait, then you will pay the equivalent of a scalper a premium price for the item to enjoy that item now. That being said, I have noticed that the members of this board are kind and want to make sure that Dan and Patti do well. They all want those who want a knife to use the opportunity to buy one. It is fair that someone can buy more than they need in order to resell, and I will not argue with that. But the spirit of this board is that those who have plenty will share and those who have none will be provided for from the generosity of others.
Some of the filters suggested are sound; time based, quantity based, and who you know based.
The free market and capitalism will be tested by the spirit and conscience of the dogs in the yard.
Cheers,
AKMatt
