We can't have Hi cap mags so the classic single stack .45 is nice for my smal hands.
The 9mm is an excellent round I think Americans just hate anything metric on principle. 7.62/54 has been around for over a hundred years and is still a viable military round. A Finn Sniper used the Mosin to kill over 500 Soviets single handed(he got another 250 with a subgun). It is also the cheapest centrefire rifle round now that the 7.62/39 has gone up in price so much.
The K98 mauser has the best action of any firearm ever made period. It is the best bolt action ,bolt action is the best type of action game set and match. The Israeli and Spanish version are now available in .308. The Argentine 1909 is one of the finest military(or any) rifles ever made.
A 45/70 is definitly manly but a bit outdated.

I prefer the 9mm. In fact 124 grain +P are what I carry in my Sig. The 9mm has been putting down guys for well over 100 years.

nozh2002, just wanted to say that was a great looking 454 Casul, I've still got my field grade one I bought back in 93. Over the years I had a screw shear off that holds the barrel on because I shot the heck out of it and like a dumb head, when I tried to drill the screw out, I drilled just a little bit into the barrel. To make the long story short, I sent it back to freedom arms and they repaired everything free and it was way out of warranty and I sent them drawings and told them what I had did. There service was beyond my expiations and I've been a loyal customer since. My best 2 weapons are my glocks and Casul, the AK's, macs, etc.. are throw aways.
Everything is possible and failure is not an option.

The main reason I like it is I just seem to shoot it better than 45, not that I'm bad with a 45. And having 15 shots in the magazine is nice, too. But if I was in the Army and doing CQB in some urban hell hole, forced to use ball ammo, I'd choose the 1911 or some other 45.

The problem with 9mm is, you can put them down, but, darn it, they keep on getting up again!

I think there is too much emphasis put on caliber. One who is mentally committed to extreme violence should have a good go at finality regardless of the tool at hand.

I think there is too much emphasis put on caliber. One who is mentally committed to extreme violence should have a good go at finality regardless of the tool at hand. That's true to a certain extent; a .22LR can be just as deadly as anything else on the market, but shot placement becomes very critical as the energy imparted decreases. From what I've read, 9x19mm beat out the .45ACP in U.S. military testing for several reasons. Perhaps the most important is that our European NATO allies were already standardizing on 9mm and we wanted to simplify logistics in preparation for the cold war going hot. Of course, for civilian use that isn't important, but (at least in peacetime) surplus ammo is a lot cheaper to shoot. The factor that was most controversial was force delivery; since Newton's Second Law states that force = mass x acceleration, force is directly proportional to a bullet's mass, but is proportional to its velocity squared. So, lighter, faster bullets hit harder, or that's the theory. Again, from what I've read, not personal experience, the much greater penetration of 9mm FMJ often causes it to go through a person, so much of that force is still in the round as it exits the body. The .45ACP on the other hand, imparts more, if not all, of its force and being a large, heavy round, is especially good at transferring momentum. Most of the newer popular rounds try to bridge the gap by being larger and heavier than the 9mm for increased momentum transfer, but they have higher velocities, flatter trajectories, and better penetration than the .45. .40 S&W and 9mm seem to be the most popular calibers among police departments in my area; my guess is that 9mm's popularity is mostly due to cheaper ammunition.
