It probably followed the deer into town as they go where the prey goes.
I personally am glad you did not shoot it but I would understand if you did especially if you have small children. So long as it is a healthy cat and there is
no shortage of it's natural prey you really have very little to worry about. It is either younger or old sick ones that usually attack humans usually either kids or small women. It pisses me off that I live where we have wolves ,bears ,cougars ,lynx etc but no one is allowed firearms in their vehicles or on their person unless legally hunting or on the way to or from the range(no you can't make any stops). If you were a Canadian you would have had to hit it with your prosthetic leg.

Cool story Stan.

I agree with Whichdawg, you probably chose the best action, slowly draw gun and slowly back away towards the house without turning your back and without loosing sight of or eye contact.

Glad you were unharmed.

It can be very hard to make a good shot at night in the dark that will put down a charging "beast". So, I can appreciate wanting a Dog Father, but I would still probably prefer the gun. - However, having the Dog Father as 2nd / backup option would be best.

Yikes Stan! Crazy.

Similar situation last week, replace the cougar with two grizzly bears!

That would rank pretty high on my scared shieyetless meter - right up there with being stranded up to my neck in the ocean and seeing a few fins circling me.

Those types of laws piss me off!!!

Countries with laws like England are pissing me off just because certain Sheeples will use them as an example that we should follow. Their laws are just beyond rediculous!

Thought the dogs would enjoy this:
So I get home tonight from the gym at about 630 and here in Washington it is dark then, So I park my car in the guyrage (yes I spelled that right) go to my work truck in the driveway to gut the pistol that I left there, grab it and head to the mailbox.
As I head to the mailbox I shine my G2L across the street into the woods and see some glowing eyes, so naturally I throw a couple of stones his way to get some movement (thinking it is the large buck that has been hanging around here) nothing, no movement, no eye movement not anything!
I think to myself "thats odd self" as I get closer I think to myself I can see both of his eyes .... at the same time, hint NOT A DEER, as I walk within 20 or so feet I see the large white ghest of the Cougar staring at me never loosing eye contact it hits me what I am looking at and I imediatly feel my heart beat increase to a very fast pace (bump bump bump)2 very big very close very green eyes looking at me from 20 feet!
I rapidly ( as rapidly as a 1 legged man can)back my butt back up the driveway never breaking eye contact with this very large creature up to my house and from there I watch him for 20 minutes sneaking around in the brush.
I don't know what his intentions were but I am thinking that he was looking at me like a starved carton chatacter that had been marooned on an island for a long long time.
Long story short it scared the crap out of me!
Did I mention that I imediatly pulled my .357 out from my waist and put the CT laser on the left eye as I backed up.
SCARY
Anyone else have something like this happen to them?
I would have felt better if I had my DF in hand.

You are a far better man than I. If I ended up that close, I most likely would have emptied the gun and then ran to get a bigger one. Scary. Cats are nothing to mess with, I am glad it turned out well

I have to say that the situation would probably have scared the Sh#$ outta me, but WOW to get to see an animal like that so close is always interesting to, keeps you on your toes, thats for sure...

I've seen Bob Cats and Coyotes around here and never worried, I don't know how I'd feel if I saw a Cougar or a Bear...

This look familiar? This is Apache, he lives in the backyard. If you look closely, you'll see my reflection in his eyes.

OMG, that video almost puts Tommy Seebach in the same league as Günther. Sadly, I think Günther has more talent.

That was horrible Din. I can't believe I watched an entire minute of that.
