The damage happened while I was chopping on a wooden pallet. I was making sure that I did not hit any nails while chopping it down. While twisting out the blade from a fairly deep chop, the blade edge ripped (maybe a 1/8"). Naturally this concerned me.
So I figured, I would see if I could get it to continue to fracture up the blade, which it did.
What did you chop on to see if you could continue the Fracture????
As HD said, a SR-77 should not incure nearly that type of damage from chopping on wood and avoiding nails.
Actually, you could/should be able to hit quite a few nails and not have anything near the type of damage shown in your picture.
I am still assuming you chopped on some rocks or something (????).
If that damage is from wood, that blade was highly defective.
Even ironwood or mesquite which are both quite hard shouldn't do anything like that. (Petrified wood still isn't wood... )

Side note: I also think some appreciation should be thrown in your direction for patience on this issue being resolved.
I think in all fairness, it is hard for them to get a single blade like this replicated.... Although, I am surprised they don't have a couple or few stashed aside somewhere.
A company like busse will have blade blanks produced in batches. Hopefully, they have a BIG batch of DF blanks coming soon for some DFLE's.
But, I also tend to agree with Diceman. I think they should have done a little more to get you a replacement sooner even if they had to custom make a one off as opposed to waiting a long time for a batch of blanks.
I am also a big believer in communication and customer service. I would have expected them to get and stay in touch with you about progress and timeline of resolution for the warranty.
Have they not told you when they expect to replace your blade?
