I tested three different Busse-made 6" models for chopping. They are: Scrap Yard Knife Company Scrapper 6. It has a 6 3/8" long, 1/4" thick blade of SR77 steel with a Repirene C handle. It weighs 12 oz. Swamp Rat Knife Works Mischief 6. It has a 6" long, 1/4" thick blade of SR101 steel with micarta handles. It weighs 15 oz. Busse Combat Knife Anniversary Steel Heart 1. It has a 6 3/8" long, 7/32" thick blade of INFI steel with G10 handles. It weighs 14 1/2 oz. From top to bottom are shown the M6, S6, and the ASH-1. Here they are in their sheaths:

I found a suitable piece of dead Tupelo wood for the test. This is very hard, well-seasoned wood. After 50 chops, the M6 broke completely through the wood, but the S6 seemed to chop a little deeper. I had a hard time chopping with the Busse. For some reason, I could not control where the knife hit the wood with as much precision as I could with the other two. Maybe its just me. Since it did chop all the way through in 50 chops, I show the Swamp Rat on top.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

But that is hardly the whole impression. All three knives were given equal edges. I expected the ASH-1 with its broad blade to chop better. Even though the Scrapper 6 felt noticably lighter, it was the easiest to control with precision and clearly chopped just a little deeper than the M6 did when the wood broke. The M6 was almost as comfortable to chop with as the Scrapper. It is a tank of a knife, the heaviest of the three. As you can see from the spine shot, the Busse is just a touch thinner than the other two. I would have to say that the M6 and S6 tied for first place, with the beautiful Steel Heart lagging behind them both as a chopper. I am surprised. Glad I didn't put it up against the Ratweiler or Yard Guard. These are the winners in this little test.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Interesting that you found that what looks to be the better chopper was not, for you, during actual use. Thanks Vic.

i think it makes sense. the 'a' is for anorexic, right?
the s6 is lighter but all that handle is rubber, so the weight's fwd distributed. i did think the rat would be last, though, with wieght in the grip. never held one, just a guess.

Wow! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" /> That is a very interesting outcome.
How comfortable was the handle on the ASH-1 with that pattern? When you were Chopping.
