I got the impression from Jerry's thread that the price would be roughly the same for the uncoated "comp" blade as for the coated blade. It seems to me that if the blades are not going to be coated that a production step and some material has been eliminated. Call me crazy but, that should lead to a reduction in the cost to manufacture that should be reflected in the price to consumers. Maybe I misunderstood something.

I agree Willie, they need to be (a lot) less than CG- AND CG need to start being sent out sharp! That pic proves Jerry can make sharp knives- it just seems he chooses not to.

Great post KnifeGuy...I agree with everything you wrote...
As to this blank knife blade - Id really like to see what it will retail for...! $100USD, $150 ???? Thanks John. I don't think the "Jack Hammer" "Competition Grade" knife was intended to be sold as just a "BLANK" blade - Jerry even mentioned: "Handles can be a bit rough as well" - And would very unlikely be anywhere near $150 let alone $100 in INFI and with a handle. Hmmm, youre right, I just saw the pic and assumed due to the naked/raw looking blade, it wouldnt include a handle... As to selling unrefined blades with rough finish...isnt Busse the premium line ? Swamp-Rat being lower in price, and Scrap-Yard cheaper still ? So wouldnt a low priced rough knife from Busse overlap...? Seems that it would be literally perfect as a "Scrap-Yard" knife...Busse offering the high end that command premium prices, and the other two brands offering cheaper (NON-LE) users...? I also think that a bare bones blade kit would be Yardtastic price wise. I keep coming back to the QC that Dan and the other Busse's demand. While the blade would still be of the greatest quality, the handle would be a toss up.
If I can make it dark, I can make it light.

Stabby. I guess they do the QC before they grind the 'edge' (term used loosely) on..

I'm convinced it's all a marketing ploy. Jerry sells knives that aren't very sharp so he can convince people to buy knives that are. He pumps up his dull knives with all kinds of neat finishes and slick handles and he pumps up his sharp knives with scratches and rough handles. And the beautiful thing is, people will trample each other to buy both. Brilliant! Bruce, you see through all the promotions and hype so well, one wonders if you were once a car dealer!

I don't have any particular beef with the sharpness of Busse family knives I've received. The three Busses and three Swamp Rats I've purchased have all come very sharp. This is the least I would expect when purchasing a knife at any price let alone a Busse family price. Knives are supposed to be sharp. Even junky knives should be sharp when you get them. My SS4 was only so-so, but I was able to sharpen it up. None of these knives, however, are very good cutters or slicers. I guess because they're so thick. (By the way, I recently purchased a custom that had not been sharpened at all. Had to send it back to get it finished.)
Regarding marketing ploys, I have to agree with Bruce. If I could cut my costs as a manufacturer by continuing to produce roughly finished blades, not buy spooge to paint the roughly finished knive, give the knive a catchy name and then charge the same or similar price, well, that sounds like more profit and, well, color me happy.

A 'comp grade', INFI, S6 sized knife would be useful- too small to be a chopper anyway and tough (and corrosion proof) as old boots... Good knife.
