There have been times, especially when I first returned from the war, when I wondered if America was worthy of the terrible suffering and sacrifices of those who served. I was spit upon and called a baby killer by hippies in the San Francisco airport in late August of 1968. Servicmen of all branches were reviled in those dark days. When I got out, I was in a long line of veterans trying find jobs. The draft dodgers and cowards had become the bosses. Those with "connections" did not need to serve. This was before the lottery draft system started. The worst, most disgusting tribe of traitors I ever saw was and still is in the public schools and universities. Since I couldn't find a job, I went to college on the GI bill and eventually took a commission as a 2LT in the Army. I had wanted to teach school, but found the atmosphere so Marxist and anti-American among my fellow future "educators" that I took additional courses and managed to get my commission rather than spend any more time among traitors. My girls receive daily anti-American indoctrination in the public schools. I do my best to counter it, but it is difficult.
Now for the good part. In spite of all this there have always been some good patriots, even among educators, that expressed their appreciation for those who serve. Whether I agree with the various wars or not, I always support those in uniform. They all serve their nation. To all of you who have expressed your gratitude to America's veterans I say thank you. It is Americans like you who make this nation worth risking death for. Let us all do our part to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Those who serve do not make policy. They obey the lawful orders of the President and those officers he has appointed. No matter what many may think of the current Iraq war, those being wounded and killed now are serving the United States. Thank God most Americans are not blaming the soldiers for this war, as many did the soldiers in Viet Nam. I don't know if going into Iraq was smart or not, but I do know that brave young Americans are fighting and dying there. God bless them. I salute them all. If the day ever comes that our citizens will not serve, our nation will cease to exist very quickly.
End of rant.
