I have the Colonel's actual carry applegate fighter in my collection. I will post a pic of it as soon as I can. It was a handmade prototype of the 'boot' version of the knife, with a nifty kydex sheath.

I purchased a Boker Applegate/Fairbairn Fighting Knive recently and I thought it might be nice to purchase a copy of Rex Applegate's book, Kill or Get Killed, to go along with it. I found the paperback at Amazon for around $26.00, but before I bought it, I decided to conduct a Yahoo search to see if I could pick it up less expensively elsewhere. Among the results of my search was the entire text of the book online. Given that today is Veteran's Day, I felt it would be appropriate to post the link here. Before you click on the link, be forewarned that the size of the pdf file exceeds 17MB. And do NOT download this book if you have delicate sensibilities. It's not for the faint of heart:

Thanks again to those who have had to put the lessons of Rex Applegate's book into practice in order to defend my freedom.

Cool.

I'll have to download that at work tomorrow.

It is a classic and covers a lot of stuff, thoes men knew alot about some rather grim things and have passed us a chest full of knowlage on to us, I hope we never need to use it but we should know anyways.

One of the most useful things in the book is the anatomy charts. There is some discussion as to how accurate the times are but no question as to the lethality.

One interesting one is how German army officers would commit suicide rather than fall into the hands of the Red army by having a buddy stab straight down through top of the shoulder next to the neck piercing the heart. It would be instant and painless. Not an easy one to make on an unwilling enemy though.

Unsub,
The actual one. I also have one of his smatchets (made by Buck knives), and the Moray he sometimes used.
He was the MAN.

WOW I am totally impressed Roo! Those are some important artifacts.
You HAVE to post some pics.

At first I did not like the Smatchet but it totally grew on me. It is like single malt ,you have to have tried ,liked and gotten bored of good blends(or other fighting knives) before you can totally appreciate it.
