I was in a discussion on another forum about bushcraft knives. During the discusion I posted pictures of a knife I bought used at a swapmeet for $2 when I was 14 or so. I am 42 now so you can see I have had the knife for awhile Mike Stewart asked that I send him the knife to help figure out where it originally came from. There are no marks what so ever on the blade, so it may be a "luchbox special" from Marbles or it could be a Wade & Butchers. Here are some pic's For most of my life this has been my bush knife

It's actually a knock off made in Japan in the 1970's or 80's. I've had it since 83 or 84 and it was used when I got it

If you look at the sketch of Kephart's sheath knife in his book on Camping and Woodcraft, that one looks exactly like it!

Actually it looks like a caricature of a white hunter.
I love that first one,it reminds me of my favourite Ruana knives. If it turns out it is a Ruana(long shot) let me know and I will give you a kidney

Doesn't matter if it is an original marbles or a cheap knockoff, that knife and I have a long history together and the only way we will seperate is when I pass it on to the next generation Most knives are just things but some become part of you
As far as the "great white hunter knife" it really does say that on the blade I think Unsub is right when he called it a caricature, however believe it or not the steel in it is not half bad

Those jap blades were pretty decent but they were making a type of knife they knew nothing about so it came out looking "wrong". I am sure the heat treat and the steel were good. Here is my favourite White Hunter copy. It is a german air force knife and I could have got one and didn't and now I totally regret it.

I've never put the knife through any serious tests as I think it's design is laughable. Now I am thinking maybe I should, the blade shape isn't too much different then the CRKT M1 lightfoot design just much bigger, and I do like the M1 as it is my current EDC

Maybe try something like cutting strips of cardboard to check edge retention? That is a good way to figure out if the heat treat is good?

Thinking of sharpening it up nice and then to a comparison with the DM. The knife has a very thick spine

I don’t understand the Puma White Hunter. It is supposed to have been designed with advice by African professional hunters. What uses did they have in mind for it?
There is a think spot on the spine that you could use for batoning, but the rough splitting blade is right next to it. It has a skinning curve on a six inch blade. Maybe that works for skinning elephant and rhino? It’s too long for a skinner in my book. And why sharpen the blade on top of the skinning curve? To help you open the guts by mistake? Most of the knife is double edged, which makes choking up on the blade for fine work risky.
It’s a beautiful knife. It’s a great wall hanger. Maybe it gives you bragging rights. But what is it for?
