Today I did a little edge work on two of my choppers, the DF and the CS Gurkha Kukri in Carbon V (older model). These are two of my best. The DF is easier on the hands. The Res C absorbs shock even better than the Kraton.

Thanks. The CS still had the factory edge (which is pretty good), but I thinned it out some and polished it. Its still not quite where the DF is. Believe or not, the Dog Father can chop as well as that 12" kukri with better comfort. I paid a little extra and got the CS in satin. It has been used, but the satin doesn't show wear as bad as a painted blade does. I bet satin Carbon V Kukris are worth a bit now that all CS blades are foreign made.

There are a few methods. The easiest is with a 15 or 9 micron belt on a sander. I'm really just goofing off. Well, showing off. Some people just love to see mirror polished edges. It's really not necessary. In fact, a good 80 micron or 220 grit edge looks fine and seems to "bite" better when cutting. The polish will be roughed up the first time I do some serious chopping anyway.

Vic,

Once again, GORGEOUS work.

I am one who loves the satin blades (duh), but I like the mirror edges.

But, I agree, especially on choppers, a mirror polish isn't buying much in function and doesn't last at all when used for chopping.

Although, I do tend to prefer a little sharper than 220 grit.

JYD #39 I prefer "SATIN" blades!!!

Just looking at the final edges, I'm guessing Busse uses 80 or 100 grit!
