I sharpened it and cleaned it up today, but I left the well-earned battle scars.

Hmmm. I'm noticing some deeper grind marks on my blade. More transverse near the ricasso and more longitudinal over the rest of the blade. I can actually see them under the coating on teh other side since I know what I'm looking for. They might take some work to get out. I can't really mess this up with the scotchbrite pad, right? I mean, it won't hurt anything unless I get it too hot, right?

If you want to remove those deep scratches, you will need to sand them. Scotchbrite pads can heat the metal some, so go slow. I did not bother removing them except on the spine and around the handle. I just buffed the rough parts of the blade and left it at that.

What I mean is, it's taking quite a bit of pressure with the scotch brite pad just to get the coating off. It won't actuallytake any metal off, will it?

I use paint stripper to take the coating off. See tutorial.

Guys, this thread is better suited to bladeforums.com and knifeforums.com. If you post a comparison that is great, however we need to move back on track here. Enjoy Scrap Yard Knife Company's forum!
