i know what an ocarina is and think it's awesome piece but i don't really hear it...ever. it's like a sweet bridge between a recorder and a whistle, right?

Actually it's more like a mix between a flute and a recorder. It sounds neet and is really easy to play.

I have one of these.
Mountain Ocarinas

And one of these.
Songbird Ocarinas

I had to have a Zelda Ocarina! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

the beauty of these things is that unlike a flute or a recorder, placement of the holes has nothing to do with the notes, it's the size and number of them. thus you can tune and arrange the notes in sequence to play a melody by running your fingers down them in the order they appear if you learn to make your own. yes, i did just make that up and it's all theoretical but i don't think it's too far fetched. correct me if i'm a little or way off.

if you happened to make a friend who played a stringed instrument and was willing to send you some chords you could, if you wanted to, add a track on your ocarina to the composition.
