I have a Fenix and I really like it. Except I keep misplacing it cuz it's so small. Never had that problem with Maglites.

I have a Fenix too. At least I had a Fenix. It's still wandering around the postal system somewhere out there all alone. I just hope I'll see it again someday.

I just got it for backpacking. I really haven't had the chance to use it in the field. However, from what I've seen of it it's pretty nice. It's the Tikka XP.

Cool. I would be interested in hearing about it, when you do use it. Please.

I just remembered I got a little Swiss tech microlight. It's pretty bright for being so small. I like it.

Sometimes when backpacking you can get to your campsite right at dusk. So you're usually pitching a tent, or cooking dinner in the dark. It's very helpful in that endeavour. I had a bigger headlamp that I used when sea kayaking, especially if I had to paddle after dark. landing your kayak in higher surf can be downright scarry especially at night.

If you're looking for a good solid durable light gor everyday usage I'd suggest a Mini-Mag LED. They're actually a pretty good upgrade to the old style mini-mags. The light output is pretty good, it's LED so it won't burn out on you. Lastly, you can find them for 20-25 bucks.

I bought one of the Mag LED upgrades, but what’s WAY better is the new 3 watt 2aa light. It’s at least 3x brighter than the upgrade.

I've ditched MagLite 2xAA bulb types long ago.. the bulbs burn out/break way too fast.. not enough light for the weight/size carried.

So I'm on the Hunt for a good LED, small, pocket carry, long batt life w/ normal AA or AAA.

In the meantime i'm packing a humble lil Dorcy 1AAA LED (~$7.99 @ Walmart)

The Dorcy was my EDC until I got the 3 watt 2AA Maglite. It’s amazingly bright, a great deal for the price/quality.

hmm.. gonna have to try one of those 3W LEDs out!
How do they run with Ni-MH AAA rechargables?

I run nimh AAs in mine. When I first got it I left it on and timed it and I got 4 hours of light out of it before it went dead. They’re like $25 at Walmart, give ‘em a try. And if for some reason you don’t like it, you can always return it at Walmart with your receipt.
