Welcome to the yard cfreak!
I'd also agree the perfect solution to cutting things is a big heavy knife (DFLE is perfect!) to knock hell out of stuff and a small agile knife (SS4 or similar) for fine cutting, skinning and getting dirt from under your nails.. However if you only take one knife a 6 1/2 to 7" blade is ideal (S6, Basic 7 or ASH for the rich amongst us) as it can do everything; well sort of..

In my opinion, the cool thing about SY/SW/Busse knives is that you can ALWAYS get your money back. If you buy it, decided you don't like, or you really shouldn't have bought it, they are very easy to sell. More than likely, you will even make some money on the deal.
If you don't get it, you will either regret it, or end up paying more later. My advice is to go for it and if you really, really can not afford it, then part with it later.
How many other things in this world can you buy without much risk of losing money?

Bruce, I mentioned the ASH to be topical, I second your fine choice of the Camp Tramp and take this opportunity to bemoan the madness that led the swamp down the road to micarta-ville.. Lucky for us Dan likes res-C!

The reason I won't get an ASH is everytime I pick up my Badger Attack I feel disappointed and put it back in the drawer again.. My wonderful, beat up S6, pristine Basic 7 and carefully used SS4 are just so tactile.. and just feel better.

Scrappy- if you don't have a DF get the DFLE, it's probably a better all-round knife and at a great price!! If the wife is playing up about it, get two, sell one of them to help take the sting out of the one you keep!
Just for the record my wife said... "No, you can't have one" when she caught me looking at it.. Sadly she killed me with logic- "it's too big to carry on the hills, you'll never buy a 4X4 to actually need it (anyway haven't you got the black one already?) and you can save the money towards the stainless Bravo 1 you want next year".
Scrappy, hope your negotiation goes better than mine has so far!!

you all make good points. i can sell it if need be but i'm not sure it is worth the argument. the df i think is a better chopper and i already have at least 5 flat ground 15 inch knives. i am jealous of those who get one.

hmmm, i really wnat this thing to be able to chop and only chop. does anyone think that it will be EVERY BIT as good a chopper as the cg? idk, i liked the cg's grind. i hope this one will be as good, if not better. (at chopping)
vic, you have to compare the two, when you get yours. =]

I get the feeling the LE will outperform the CG in every way.
