"honolulu, which is just the worst tourist trap city I've ever visited." I agree... well, not the worst, but really bad. Get out of there, and Hawaii is lovely.

I don't know whether you'll be doing much island hopping, but I especially like Kauai. The big island is nice, too.
Have you ever snorkeled? Love it. Still wanting to get my SCUBA ticket though.

However my needs are simple for this trip: 1. Sandy beach 2. Sun 3. Visit Pearl Harbour 4. Well, you should be able to get lots of 1-4 on Oahu with no problems, though I'd prefer other Islands for 1,2 & 4.
