oh yeah, last thing. if you have a chance to take a trip to the PCC - polynesian cultural center - it can be fun. usually just take a bus from honolulu, and spend the day learning about different polynesian nations. some pretty interesting stuff, and if you stay for the luau dinner it's really good.

you know, the fact that you won't be able to island hop this trip means you have an excuse to go back. everyone should visit maui before they die, and drive out to southpoint on the big island. it's the southernmost point in the united states, and it feels like you're standing on the end of the world.

not that, you know, I like hawaii much or anything.

ah, dan, some things are worth suffering for! slaughter beach and twin falls on maui are in my top ten favorite places on earth that aren't in utah. being able to just pull a guava off a tree and eat it is one of the best experiences you can have in life. going to whaler's village, cannery row...eating a pineapple you just picked from a plant...snorkeling in perfectly clear water...cooking a fish you just speared yourself...hacking open a coconut with a machete...cliff diving...nothing like it.
