oh yeah.. That's the one I initially thought you were talkin about..

1130 cc, 11.3:1, 9,000 rpm V-Rod power!

that's like a burly Buell in tight Harley clothing..

When I was younger I had a crotch Rocket, a Yamaha FZR 400. At the time it was the best handling motorcycle on the market because of its Aluminum frame and swing arm. I admit I did some really dumb crap on that bike. One day I woke up and realized that I was doing some dumb stuff on that bike and said to myself that if I'm going to be doing dumb stuff then I might as well shoot for Farm Animal Stupid. So I sought to increase horsepower.

What's the best way to increase horsepower? A bigger engine. So I put in a 600cc engine. The motor mounts had to be reworked but it was worth it. Next step was a Vance and Hines pipe, stage 3 intake kit, 5 angle valve job, bored it 30 thousandths over, and a few other tweaks.

When we got it all assembled and tweaked I took it out for the first time. After opening it up I grinned ear to ear for the next three days.

I've got no bike right now, and I'll never get another crotch rocket. However, I do have my eye on one of these: http://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/bikes/bike.jsp?b=r1200gsa

I love those big trailies. The HP2 and the KTM superenduro are a little more svelte though. I can't wait to ride this summer but right now it is -44 below.
I love the nightster way more than those Vrods. Sportsters don't get enough respect but the 1200's are actually the fastest harleys and now you can get deadly hardtail frames for sporty's and Buells. I checked out a few Buells and they are incredibly nice as far as fit and finish but I would not want a bike that cost twice as much as mine and made half the power. I would buy a dumped one for a chopper project andsteal the WP front end for my 919 though.

I am going motorbike camping this summer and I will be taking my SS4 and Dogfather. The DF will make it so I don't need to pack an axe or machete.

The Bonnie is doing well for sales mostly because it looks great and is incredibly cheap, about 8000$ for a new one some models are even cheaper. It would make a wicked custom chopper as well.

Yep, priced decent.. that Norton-esque nostalgia really comes through..

About the Only annoying thing they did was (forget which one: alter firing angle, or offset crank pin).. to get that "lopey idle that Americans crave".
(Dunno if still done like that.)
That parallel twin motor could've otherwise been smoother and made more power.

Only the cruisers had the lopey american idle. The Thruxton cafe racer, and the new Bonnevilles have a bigger motor. There is a cheaper dark version that has the old motor and it is a heck of a deal.

A modern sportbike can be a write off if you drop it of it's kickstand because the plastic is so expensive and breaks easy. Find one of these and strip of all the plastic and put on some dirtbike bars and a round headlight and you have got yourself a killer streetfighter. I saw an article on a 04 Ninja 1000 that had this done and it was incredible. The stock 04 and newer ninja's can do 100MPH in first gear. With the higher bars it was even comfortable and wheelied like mad.

oh you Bet ya! with ~15k rpm redline & stock gearing.. Many sportbikes can achieve triple digit mph in 1st gear!
Yes.. i really like the streetfighter look/concept. When i ride my cruiser.. I find i'm runnin a Lot of errands around town.. I find i don't have enough storage.. steering angles & gearing good for highway make city riding feel sluggish, etc.

Be Careful when parking your bike on Blacktop/Tar Parking Lots or Streets!

Years ago we were all enjoying a nice lunch.. we look out the window and all the sportbikers' rides were Tilting Over about to Fall!
We all said What the H#LL?? and Ran outside..

turns out the sharp kickstands on most of the Sportbikes were Sinking INTO the cheap Tar parking lot! all the Cruisers' fatter kickstands sunk a little but not as much.

So now.. everyone carries around little pieces of plywood for under the kickstand.. just in case!

that is Awesome! looks Hella Fun!

IK,
Have you had to "smog test" a car yet??

No yet, talked with DMV and they didn't mention of it. Maybe because my car is recent (2003). Anyway, I asked a new license plate and I'm waiting.

re: Calif smog test

IK,
Normally we gotta smog test every 2 years.

But if car is new.. you can defer the test for 6 years by paying an extra "fee" with your registration.. goddam extortion i tell ya!

Luckily motorcycles do NOT have to be smogged.. but dirtbikes do need to have spark arresters.

So hot rodders are pretty much SOL in this state.. unless they have a 1975 or older vehicle (smog exempt).. or rod out their motorcycles instead..

Anyways, cheers.
