When I was in High School I wanted a 1966 Electra Glide. Over the years the glide got a travel trunk and the batwing fairing. This Road King reminds that old Electra Glide. The Samson fishtail mufflers sound oh so retro, especially with the big bore kit and cams. Potato, potato, potato. Bike runs much better than it did stock, pulls harder down low and revs higher. The King handles well too, for a hog. That's why a lot of police departments use them.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Interesting comment H-D. My first impression when I looked at the photo was "cool looking Electra Glide with no windshield and fairing". It wasn't 'til I looked harder that I saw that it wasn't a Glide. Awesome bike.
Did you rejet the carbs with the big bore kit?

This old biker from my town has the same saddlebags and just flogs that bike. I have seen sparks as I struggled to keep up.

Kraz: The bike is fuel injected. Just a little stage II remapping from the friendly folks at H-D.

Fuel injection makes this motorcyclist very happy!
The neat thing about computer controlled FI is that there's always some tinkerer who wants to create a little better map. When my Tuono needs service in a few hundred miles I'm going to get it re-chipped (again) and tuned to give me an even more aggressive map. I replaced the OEM map years ago but technology keep gettin' better!

It sure as hell beats changing jets, running, checking plugs, changing jets again. Besides, EFI can deliver optimal mixture under different conditions such as temp, barometric pressure, air density, etc. My mechanic told me that if I want to go to the 103 cu in stroker, I'll have to install a larger fuel injection unit. I'm quite happy with the 95" kit. Short stroke means I can rev it higher without excess piston speed. More revs = more hp. Of course, when you make more hp, you burn more gas. Mileage went from 40-45 mpg to 35-40 mpg.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Ya, I know about that HP and gas mileage relationship. An unmanaged right wrist on my Tuono nets me 26 mpg, more or less. If I'm not driving "sporty" (ahem) then its around 30 mpg.
You're probably doing the right thing by staying at 95 H-D. If the mods get too extreme you eventually escape the envelope of the original engine design and the bad mechanical stuff starts happening. Unless you plan to race it of course, and then you already know what you're getting into

I bought the very first Kawaski Vulcan 2000 (2053 cc, 124 cu in) when they came out in 2004. That was one neck-snapping rip roaring beast. It weighed a metric ton! So there I was with a new road king and a new vulcan. The vulcan was too heavy and the king was too slow. So I sold the vulcan and hopped up the king. Been satisfied with it ever since.
