Hey, norcal kid. Not sure about everyone else's take, but my take is that I'm really excited about the YKCG. I don't have a DMCG or a YKLE, so I'm only 1/3 informed... take everything I say based on that.

Better price than DMLE, less 'wasted' steel in the overly-expansive ricasso/choil area. I think (not sure though) that the handle on the YKCG is a bit more substantial than the Basic grip on the DM. Thinner should be lighter. Flat grind, an awesome slicer. CG, back to 'maximum performance/price ratio'.

I think my backcountry knife-of-choice will be released Sunday!

i know how you feel. i picked-up one of those HF 1X30s a few weeks back. my utilitarian axes, hatchets, lawn mower, cold chisels, machetes, etc. are all convexed and lovely. I did get my assortment of belts in from Lee Valley last week, but haven't gone at my good stuff yet. On the other hand, the old belt and the veritas compound have been used on everything with an edge in the house!

my trash can is full of pig tails that were once my mail. gonna wash up and go to bed. i'm actually really tired, just been to captivated to stop.

may need an intervention soon.
