Well y'all - I have no experience with any of the Scrap Yard blades...have owned a Camp Tramp 7 in the past...have a Muddy Mastiff and SS 4 coming shortly...will grab a Dog Father as soon as they become available (tomorrow morning? )...but will still want an all purpose blade for playing in the back country, shelter bulidin', skinnin', pryin' and....whatever else is asked of the blade...SO, what's the better piece - the Camp Tramp or the SS6???
and feel free to make other suggestions in the 6"-7" survival blades thanks dogs

I will let the Dogs respond because I am just a little bit biased. For what its worth, you cant go wrong with either blade but the SS6 beats everything on the Price/Performance ratio...hands down Dan

I have one Camp Tramp- that's what got me into this mess. Immediately after buying it, I found out it was discontinued. I have never used the Camp Tramp because I wanted it to retain its value. However, based on the feel of it, and using similar blades, I would go with the Camp Tramp. I have used the Scrapper 6- to qualify SYK in anticipation of the DF. It's a very substantial knife- seems like it's bigger than it is. I can't figure out why they didn't debut with a 7- 1/2" knife. But... the leverage of a knife 1" + longer would probably be better. Just something to think about.

Will,
I have a Camp Tramp and Scrapper 6....I think you would be best off with a DOG FATHER..opps...errr..sorry about that. The CT is a better Chopper, the 1" of length does add a bit of weight, but the Scrapper 6 is very substantial. I perfer the Srapper for more of the Hiking/skinner, the slightly smaller size allows for more manipulation in smaller spaces. Though a fellow did skin a Cow with his CT...picture on Rat Chat.
Diver....go use it...you lose about $25 in resale.....it is worth so much more as a user than that!
EMail if you have a spare 460!!!!

To me, the Scrapper 6 is a knife that falls into the catagory of a knife trying to do it all. And for knives that try to do it all, the Scrapper 6 is very good.
If you feel you will need to do some chopping, the Camp Tramp is a better chopper. But, I don't think the Camp Tramp is very good for many smaller and more detailed cutting tasks. I feel the Camp Tramp definitely needs a partner. There are many smaller 4" +/- bladed knives that are excellent for lighter and more detail oriented tasks that could be carried with the Camp Tramp.
To me, the Camp Tramp and a Street Scrapper make an Awesome combo. To me, a well paired combo is always going to do more than any single knife.
If you only want to carry one knife into the field, the Scrapper 6 is more versatile than the Camp Tramp and a very good choice.
Or, if you don't expect to need to do any chopping, I feel the Scrapper 6 paired with a good smaller knife would be a great combo as well.
Bottom line:
Camp Tramp is a better chopper. Scrapper 6 is more versatile.
Both would be well served with a good 3.5" - 4.5" smaller partner.
--------------
Compared to the M6, I personally strongly prefer the Scrapper 6. I like micarta, but the M6 has a full tang and feels excessively handle heavy to me.
The Scrapper 6 is a very stout and heavy duty knife, but the M6 just feels too heavy for a knife of it's size.
I also prefer the feel of the Scrapper 6 handle over the M6. Again, I like micarta and Res-C. If the handle fits, I can be happy with both micarta and Res-C. But, I feel the shape of the handle is better on the Scrapper 6 than the M6.

Will if you don't currently have a CT get a Scrapper 6 on the next run, it'll be so much cheaper and it's a great all round carry. It (S6) can certainly be used for building a shelter or chopping wood for fires.. At $90 plus the cost of your prefered sheath nothing else will touch it!!
If you want the last word in economy chopping get a DF when they debut in the next few weeks!
