I actually rolled a car in my youth..
luckily just 1 roll, landed on roof.. was a stout old car so roof didn't collapse.

But i can imagine being in THAT situation, with crushed roof & everything.. oh man ::shudders::
need more coffee.. BRB

I figured as much from your previous posts, Rich. But remember, I didn't give you the Battle Rat as an option.
bld522 runs serious What If simulations..
Can't we use a cheat code?

I recall Cliff Stamp battoned a SwampRat HR through 2 door hinges! and that's only a ~4" long , 3/16" thick SR-101 blade! Iirc it broke on the 2nd hinge though

I'd like to see some more "cutting through car sheetmetal" testing! with many different knives.. that would be pretty educational

I figure any of the 'family' fixed blades would be fine but the S6 is VERY cheap for what it is and can be factory bought (coming back in sometime..). That is why it wins this one.. Given the choice of 'em all I'd take the DF generally for somewhere really remote and the S6 for off-road driving (handier in a cab situation!) or less wild areas.

Here is a link to the discussion about the test on the Busse Combat Forum. Cliff also posts link to the photos of the test.

To me, the Scrapper 6 is a knife that falls into the catagory of a knife trying to do it all. And for knives that try to do it all, the Scrapper 6 is very good.

If you feel you will need to do some chopping, the Camp Tramp is a better chopper. But, I don't think the Camp Tramp is very good for many smaller and more detailed cutting tasks. I feel the Camp Tramp definitely needs a partner. There are many smaller 4" +/- bladed knives that are excellent for lighter and more detail oriented tasks that could be carried with the Camp Tramp.

To me, the Camp Tramp and a Street Scrapper make an Awesome combo.
To me, a well paired combo is always going to do more than any single knife.

If you only want to carry one knife into the field, the Scrapper 6 is more versatile than the Camp Tramp and a very good choice.

Or, if you don't expect to need to do any chopping, I feel the Scrapper 6 paired with a good smaller knife would be a great combo as well.

Bottom line:

Camp Tramp is a better chopper.
Scrapper 6 is more versatile.

Both would be well served with a good 3.5" - 4.5" smaller partner.

--------------

Compared to the M6, I personally strongly prefer the Scrapper 6.
I like micarta, but the M6 has a full tang and feels excessively handle heavy to me.

The Scrapper 6 is a very stout and heavy duty knife, but the M6 just feels too heavy for a knife of it's size.

I also prefer the feel of the Scrapper 6 handle over the M6. Again, I like micarta and Res-C. If the handle fits, I can be happy with both micarta and Res-C. But, I feel the shape of the handle is better on the Scrapper 6 than the M6.

.

A very nice evaluation. Thanks for sharing.

Dan

I agree, ScrapYard rules the Performance/Price ratio

You have to admit I am consistent

bld522 - I suspect you already know the answer. Actually, since the Scrapper 6 has a more pointed blade, initial penetration of the metal should be easier, even though the Tramp's length would be an advantage for leverage.

The S6's spine strength would even out the levering issues..

I see a sibling rivalry brewing!

This could be good!

But there's only ONE way to find out!
Dunno who'd be crazy enough to try it though..

It would have to be a timed sheet metal chop-out event.. 2 users.. 2 knives.. rest.. then switch maybe.. average the 2 times.

Could even simulate the upside-down / cramped environment.. keeping it safe of course: goggles, gloves, etc.

A good way to put a new knife on the map.. go challenge a legend.
