I'm not going anywhere anytime soon that I know of. Odds are, I'll be a JAG lawyer by the time my unit is due to be called up anyways. And that will be easy and cushy duty. Our unit is in the process of changing over from MP's and Artillery to Engineers, so we're still waiting on getting our guys trained and on the rest of our equipment to get here. We're not even deployable as a unit right now.

I almost wnat to give him a good solid knife.

yeah, I wish I could give him a Dmutt.

what a kind gesture, I don't think I could bring myself to give up one of my knives.

if that knife saves his life, do you think you'll get a raise???

He needs a good combat knife more than I need to have 20+ of them. His dad mentioned that his unit got called up, and my first question was whether or not he had a good combat knife. "I got him a pocket knife a few months ago," he said. Any one of the guys here at the forum would (and have) done the same. I've been shown similar kindness from as couple of guys here on this forum in the past - and was glad to pass on their generosity.

Also, it was a mint condition "double" that I had and wasn't using - I didn't have any real sentimental attachment to it. Hopefully he'll beat the hell out of it over there.

On a side note, I also brought in my ASH1 w/ Okuden setup to the office - my boss and his son were just beside themselves when they saw what a beast that ASH1 is! They had quite the shocked looks when I told them how much an ASH1 w/ sheath setup costs!

where do you work!?!?
are they hiring?!
I bet they were pretty shocked at the cost.
some people are shocked at spending 50$ on a knife.
how much are the ash1's anyway?

yeah, my friend only has a buck pocket knife.
idk, I kinda want to give something... but I don't know what.
do they still issue kabars???

I would redaly give away any of my blades if I knew it would serve someone good over there.
I hope someone would do the same if I was in the situation.

yeah, I haven't seen him in a while though...
maybe if I see him again I can give him a decent blade.

but it's also, that it has to be perfect.
he's not a knife expert and I'd probably have to give him a little sharpening stone and sharpening lesson.

but more importantly, I wouldn't want to give him my big rd9 or shiv with their thick edges, as he won't be able to do any serious reprofiling and I don't want to give him a knife with too thick of an edge.

They hire pretty regularly. I'm only part time there. Knives are just a part of the uniform!
