That is pretty unbelievable! I have seen the Cold Steel "Proof" videos but they don't compare to those pics at all. I can't wait to get mine.

You know thats a good point. Isn't it interesting that the first thing we do is compare our knives to the Busse line. We really should look outside to all those tatical wanta bees and start making our comparisons there.

Thanks for bring that up

Dan

The proof of no competition would be for Dan to send a copy of his test results to Cold Steel and ask them if they'd like to drop by for a little side-by-side testing. What do you think their response would be? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

I don't think CS will want to play.. Mind you if they DID that video of theirs would be almost compulsory viewing! Watching a TM get completely stuffed by a DF would be sweet!

As I recall the CS folks had the chance to take the original "Busse Challenge" some years ago and they declined. It seems that the "main line" knife companies like to deal with the Busse question by either ignoring it or pretending that Busse performance claims are overblown.

Ya know, I was just looking through an older CS catalog today and read the TrailMaster page where it says:

Why buy a Trail Master? That’s simple. Because it is, without a doubt, the most knife for the money ever commercially built! In terms of sharpness, edge holding and strength, it will out perform—by a wide margin—any factory made knife we know of and 99% of all hand forged knives as well! We know we’re “going out on a limb” with that statement, but since 1987 we have challenged the industry to make a better knife and yet, to this day, we’ve had no takers.

Sounds like they need to be taken down a notch! As though they’re so bada$$ that no one will challenge them! Hurmph! Tell them you accept their challenge!

Just thought I'd bring this thread back to the top to give a refreshing look at some serious performance for all of us. I get goosebumps while viewing those pictures. I'm also curious as to whether Dan took Mr. Thompson up on that challenge that Andy suggested. Any comments Dan???

Great pics and demonstration. I have seen it, but it's cool enough to see a few more times.

I am so glad this has been bumped up. Maybe my Busse could do this, but none of my other choppers could pass this test. Truly amazing steel! As far as the Cold Steel challenge, I would not worry about that. Carbon V is a great steel and I personally like some CS knives, but Dan's version of S-7 is in an even higher class of performance. The Dog Father may not be the prettiest knife in the world, but that demonstration of its power is beautiful! Please bring on the LE!

WOW!! I was at a knife and gun show a couple of months ago and I got a chance to talk to a "schooled" knife maker he happen to have a knife he did his journeyman test with (don't know if the story was BS or not) but the test was to hack through 2 2x4's, cut through a 1'' free hanging rope, and then bend the knife to a 90 degree angle without breaking, I picked up the 10+ inch bladed knife and that sucker was soooooo sharp you could set it on a piece of paper and it would cut through! I believe he said it was differentialy heat treated?
Now I am going to beat my DF to death this weekend!! Woo Hoo!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
