The Ruger 10/22 sounds awesome with price, reliability, and all the available mods, but I want something more compact like the Henry AR-7 Survival rifle; but I hear it's a hit or miss whether you get a good or bad one. We have both. Get the 10/22, it's the most popular .22 for a reason. The AR-7 is crap. If you want compact, check out the new Ruger 10/22 Pistol. It looks really cool. I checked 'em out at the 1500. Before Ruger made them, a similar setup would have to be registered as a Class III short barreled rifle and a $200 tax stamp.

If size wasn't an issue, hands down I would get the Ruger 10/22, but it just isn't practical to me. I've seen modified pistols kind of like what you're talking about Andy, I'll have to look more into that. Here's a two configurations for the 10/22 I think is pretty cool. ![[Linked Image from img.photobucket.com]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v302/MRpilot/l_081de8131fe6f89b5b053b3bab15ba03.jpg) ![[Linked Image from img.photobucket.com]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v302/MRpilot/NordicComponentsruger1022.jpg) I like the concept of the AR-7 and how it'd all fit in the stock. Here is Ban's AR-7 and he said his hasn't had any problems, but it is modded. ![[Linked Image from img.photobucket.com]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v302/MRpilot/bansar7.jpg) If I get the AR-7, it'll be up to luck whether I get a good or bad one from what I hear.

We have one of the older AR-7s. It worked ok for a while, but after a lot of shooting kept jamming, etc. The concept is neat though. Another neat one is the Springfield (I think it is?) .22/.410.

The 10/22 mods are only limited by imagination and bank account. I'd be wary of any break-down rifle. It better be pretty robust at the connection point. Here's a compact .22 - the Chipmunk - a 16" barrel and 2.5 lbs <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> No matter what you decide, I've never seen a gun that I didn't like.

on the ar-7 The chamber needs a very slight chamfer on the receiving end so the bullet does not hang up while being fed from the magazine on the sharp corner. I used a .30 FMJ bullet dipped in lapping compound and slowly and gently twisted it on the chamber, slowly and a little at a time. I would work the chamfer job then reassemble the rifle and go in the back and test fire a full magazine, 8 rounds, in my fire barrel. I repeated this process until the rifle did not jam any more EXTREME care must be taken not to chamfer too much, you will wreck the accuracy if you do. It works now and never jams and the accuracy was not effected. sounds like nothing to me. if you like the tactical thing, give the ar-7 a shot. you're in california, they don't let you shoot the [censored] thing anyway so you'll never know if it jams a lot. i actually like both rifles, and i would keep both stock. would you be able to own both for the cost of getting either to look like an m4? my guess is yes.

I saw that bike in one of my banks. They were having a raffle or something to give it away.
