Not bad looking at all. When I came back from tour, I bought myself a couple SYKs, a couple rifle, and a truck. Next time, and there will be a next time, I'll come back and spend it all on an HD and more of the Busse family blades! I'll be poor, but happy! LOL!

on the ar-7

Quote
The chamber needs a very slight chamfer on the receiving end so the bullet does not hang up while being fed from the magazine on the sharp corner. I used a .30 FMJ bullet dipped in lapping compound and slowly and gently twisted it on the chamber, slowly and a little at a time. I would work the chamfer job then reassemble the rifle and go in the back and test fire a full magazine, 8 rounds, in my fire barrel. I repeated this process until the rifle did not jam any more EXTREME care must be taken not to chamfer too much, you will wreck the accuracy if you do. It works now and never jams and the accuracy was not effected.

sounds like nothing to me. if you like the tactical thing, give the ar-7 a shot. you're in california, they don't let you shoot the [censored] thing anyway so you'll never know if it jams a lot.

i actually like both rifles, and i would keep both stock. would you be able to own both for the cost of getting either to look like an m4? my guess is yes.

Thanks for the info, I read that someone else did the same thing with sandpaper (a larger caliber sounds more consistent), and they never had a jam problem again.

That H-D is sweet loooking, but I love the classic, black paint scheme better.

I've got a major bit of lust in my heart for "old fashioned" rifles. Desperately want a Shiloh Sharps in .45-70 for reaching out and touching something. Supposedly the longest shot with a Sharps rifle was 1,538 yards using (most likely) the .50-90 chambering and a telescopic sight which were quite rare in those days. Nowadays it competes at the 1000 yard plus range without a problem. And a carbine in the Marlin or Winchester '94 template for lighter work (literally; the Sharps is a big chunk of steel). The .357 and .44 magnums are supposed to do quite well in carbines, maybe look into that. .357 would be a joy to shoot, light and cheap.

Sure, at the end of the world a repeater with a deep magazine will probably be more appreciated (at least as long as you can find parts and cleaning for the finicky beast). But stylistically the modern rifle is... too pragmatic. It's made of injection molded plastic and CNCed parts, and it looks like it. I believe there's no reason a tool can't look good and still do the job it's designed for. So for me I'd rather have something with wood, blued steel, a bit of carving or brass or scrollwork...

Momaw, I hear you. I love the look of a classic rifle, nothing beats it. Still a part of me likes AR/AK. Those modded 10/22 were just examples of a couple I saw on the web I thought were cool, but I agree they're a bit much. I think Ban's AR-7 is modded perfectly, classic look with a tactical twist.

Being a CA dawg has its drawbacks, one of which is that there is no gun fun here. I want my fully loaded Tromix S17 .

I'm with you... hand finished wood and deep blue steel is art--not machine. I would love a Shiloh built Sharps in 45-110 with a venier sight and pewter schnabel...besides that, they are built in the great state of Montana. I just can't afford one (no money--or patience)

Why the .45-110? Off the shelf ammo is unheard of for it, and even the brass is hard to come by if you wanted to make your own. Granted, those big sausage-like cases are quite impressive.

I am afraid I can't justify it in any logical terms , any more then I can justify the .50 Beowulf I own ...Ammo is hard to come by (proprietary manufature) , brass is difficult to find , reloading data is scarce and it is expensive to shoot . I just like it when it recoils ...is it any different then spending 700,800 or 1000 dollars on a Busse, when a SYK will do the same thing (I base my opinion of these knives on you guys and other forums--trusting in your judgement)...it is there, it is different, and I like it...no other reason

But an SYK won't do the same thing as a Busse. Girls check out my Busse blades, but not my SYK ones .
