get the sander! i'm gettin ready for a bench grinder.
the car was makin a nasty grinding noise and i was positive it was my lower ball joint in the front right wheel assembly. i just lifted the front end and checked it out, seemed fine. cleaned off some dirt from the seal and tightened a couple things then drove it and the noise was gone. gonna try highway speeds later. hopefully everything is cool.

M22, it could be the rotors for your brake pads. When was the last time your brakes were checked/replaced?

i replaced the pads and caliper, having a spare sitting around, and the brakes are not the cause. that was my first thought, too. the first signs of the noise were stopping and accelerating from a stop. later it changed to turning.

Then I'd check the following, ball joint, tie rod, then sway bar. Sounds like one of those is the culprit. If may still be the ball joint, and it may look all right (sometimes starts out with no visible outside problem with the part. I'd seriously have a mechanic measure the spacing on your ball joint; probably the prolem right there. Let me ask, does the sound go away if you're turning away from or into your right front wheel? The sound may be travelling, and it could be your left side; sound seems to travel alot in the front of most cars/trucks.

with the window open i could hear it reflecting back in through the passenger window as i drive. that's also been a trouble spot for me, almost everything in that corner has been replaced.
i'm gonna drive it to the gym now and see what happens.

You've had a lot of problems with that side? Any accident in the past or such that could be affecting that side?
What about balance? I lost the wheel weight off a tire once, and the balance was put off just enough that when I got up past 75 km/hr, the thing would wobble and rock and shake something fierce, even worse when I touched the brakes.
Any serious potholes you hit lately? If they were deep enough, and you were travelling at a high enough speed, you could've bent your rim, and it's rubbing against the rotor.
Any number of things; if you can't find it, and it's getting worse, take it to a mechanic you trust. Better safe than sorry, I always say.
