I have an oppurtunity to buy a SW Battle Rat but do I pull the trigger or wait another "two weeks" for the Dog Father? I think that either way you would be happy. I own a couple of Battle Rats (one is a spare) and believe it to be the greatest all around knife ever. I have even used it underwater (fresh water) to great effect and without any harm to the knife. I use my BR for darn near everything and has never let me down yet.

That having been said, it sure looks like the Dog Father may be as good as or even better than the Battle Rat. I intend to buy one or two and find out.

I guess that what it really comes down to is "What do you want to use it for?" The extra length of the DF should make it a better chopper than the BR. The shorter length of the BR should make it a bit more nimble and better at non-chopping chores although the BR is still a great chopper.

Lastly would be the expense. If the BR you are considering is $200 or more, then I would wait for the DF.

Or better yet, buy the BR, get a Scrap Yard Credit Card and make the DF your first purchase on it. Then you can have them both! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Dan has already said that the LE version will come out later, so you will still have a chance for one. The BattleRat is a great knife - I have two also - but I suspect that the DogFather will be an even better chopper. P Klink,yeah that's because the moment Dan entered the room, he walked right up to the burliest knifemaker, and kicked him right in the balls!

The DF will be the best chopper in the world, forget the price, it will pretty much spank anything else as a user.. I think it will out handle a FBM and it will totally stuff the BR as a big knife.

It will be the BR of the future- but sooooo much better! Look at the design then buy the DF and get a BR sometime down the tracks.. Or get the DF and a S6 if you don't already have one when they return, then everything is covered!

This monster is the future of big knives... Jerry beware!

The Dog Father might just devalue the Battle Rat.

At the very least a Dog Father will increase in value faster than a Battle Rat initially so if you change your mind you can get in to a Battle Rat cheaper if you buy a Dog Father and then upgrade (downgrade?).

The Dog Father is going to force other makers to make their knives better.

Either that or hide their heads in the sand and pray their users/buyers don't find the yard.. Dan just changed the world.
