good luck with that, I thought after this last run that I would settle down a bit and rebuild my warchest, well best laid plans.... I now have the NMSFNO ordered, a SOD (which is a blessing on price) I just got an RC4 and have an RC6 on order (which I think I am going to have to cancel) I have an RD6 and RD9 pre ordered and now this Fehrman which I have wanted for a while.

I got a Halloween knife today. It's the Spyderco Rock Salt. It'll be interesting to compare it to the SODs when I get them. The scrappers are about 1/2 the price.

Nice looking knife, didn't know they made one that large in the H1 steel. BTW, is there a downside to H1?

As in, edge retention, resharpening, brittleness? If not, then seems to me all knives should be H1.

This is about as thick as they can make H1. It's about 3mm or around 1/8" It's also very expensive compared to Scrapyard knives.

Interesting. Didn't know there could be a thickness limit.

Expense aside, is the issue with making them thicker due to the hydrogen (IIRC) not being able to penetrate far enough during part of the process?

It's nitrogen I think. I have no idea. I just read Sal mention that it was about the limits of the steel.

Nitrogen, yes, that sounds better. Reckon it should be N1 then.

SB: mischief night isn't a national thing?!

I always wanted to wait on my roof with a paintball gun and maybe a DFLE and scare the crap out of some kids.

I've been EDCing the H1 Salt 1 for probably a year now and I'm really happy about it. Right now I'm thinking about a 4"-5" blade for my dad for christmas and I'm thinking about an Aqua Salt, RMD, DMDC, or maybe a Bravo-1. He lives at the beach. My edge has held really well, maybe not quit as good as ATS-55 but not noticably worse yet. I haven't spent more than 5 minutes on the edge in all this time, and it still cuts like a dream.

He's leaning really hard on his machete in his SHTF plan and I keep telling him he needs at least 1 thing with some lateral strength but I don't think he'll actually get anything unless I get it for him. He needs a much better folder too so I might just go with an H1 folder and then a fixed blade somewhere between 5"-7.5"
