I don't know if you guys have this problem but I hand sharpen most of my blades and they get sharp and all...but they are just a bit uneven. Like one side of the blade will have a bit different angle than the other...
I read, read, and read from different sites but somehow for some odd reason I still sharpen my blades unevenly...

I haven't actually used or sharpened my Bussekin knives, but if I let a blade that I have sharpened get too dull, I'll break out the Lansky -- if set correctly, the clamp will maintain a consistent bevel. For most touch-ups, I just use a set of ceramic crock-sticks.

I have used mine, just haven't sharpened them. I am green when it comes to that, I did break down and buy a leather hone and compound from KSF and strop the knives after using them and that seems to maintain the edge.

yeah but I'm lazy and I do not sharpen the knives in the field...:D
When I get back home the knife usually need more than just a little touch-up.
I don't have any sharping system other than water stones and sand paper. It served me well for the past 5 years but perhaps its time for me to try something else.

S/F - you've got it BAD !!! Join the crowd! Cheers PK! The good news is that I am in some good company....group therapy from fellow dogs is the best cure! ( Such as buy more and worry less!! ) Kenken, My guess is that the bevel the knives are ground at can vary slightly so when you are sharpening using a primary and/or secondary grind edge...as opposed to a full convex from the spine or a full flat grind from the spine ( which are rare grinds because they take so much metal off and take a lot of time and also you would not notice this phenomonon) you are noticing that the angle and depth of the "contact" made by the stones on the edge are uneven. This would happen if the original grind for the blade was slighly out of centre. By this I mean that from the centre of the spine taking a plumb line down...the apex of the edge is just slightly to the left or right of the plumb line. Then if the sharpening angle is constant...you make contact steeper on one side than the other...but it is no big deal and not worth worrying over unless it is significant....your edge is actually still making contact with the material being cut at the right vertical angle from the flat of the spine. Hope this makes sense! Happened to me when I started using a Lansky...this throws up these issues more because of the constant angle it can keep...

I bought one of those "Chipping Away" Ultimate Sharpeners last year, but never got around to setting it up. Vic used one and wasn't impressed -- I'm hoping the belt tension issues he encountered were an individual quality control problem rather than a design flaw. I've got the rest of this week off and might set it up, or I might just veg around the house and accomplish nothing -- that's what happens more often than not.

I've been buying somewhat indiscriminately since 5/2007 -- pretty much picking up whatever is available (except GWs/SDs/Culties) at the company store or on the normal sites sales (or via 'ganza). I keep thinking of my purchases as an investment, but I'm getting to the point where I'm not feeling the same thrill I used to because I've already got something similar to whatever I'm buying. It hasn't stopped me yet, but I'm starting to feel jaded.

I have been on a binge, too, but more BRKT than Busse. Here is my latest, a KSF Custom Bowie with a 7.5" long 5/16" thick blade of 50-100B (Carbon V) steel. Handle is dark curly maple. Almost too nice to use. Fortunately, the similar sized SOD will be coming in soon, and I ain't afraid to beat up a Scrapper. That's what they're for. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/BARK%20RIVER/KSFCustom005.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/BARK%20RIVER/KSFCustom002.jpg)
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I was able to buy a couple BRKT Foresters last month, (scrappy sold one on BladeForums, and I got the other off the bay). The only other two barkies I have are both Claxs (is that plural for Clax, it doesn't look right to me). I liked the Clax design -- very Bill Fairbairn Smatchet-like, but with a bit less history and a lot more quality. Then, I read that the Forester was had a similar blade, but flattened on one edge for batoning, so I began a quest. They were discontinued -- I couldn't find any and finally gave up, then bang!! two in the same month.
Scrappy sold his (with curly maple grips) as used, but it was not noticeably so. I paid more for the one on the bay, which had less desirable stacked leather grips, but it was a NIB first production run. Bark River seems to have a reputation as a good quality brand, but other than those two models, which attracted me because they were so unusual, I haven't collected them -- I tend to over-reach even when I try to keep my focus narrow. Yours are quite nice Vic.
