It takes a long time to get to 1000 posts, doesn't it?

yeah it is, maybe they should give JYD a 10% discount on SC knives? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Crap, I just got a couple Kellam scandi knives. I got the Wolverine and the Fang, both were bigger than I was expecting, but super light weight and wickedly sharp. I really like the looks of them and am already looking at the Tommi Line The Major, King, and Long Tommis are calling my name now. Just when I thought my knife addiction was starting to fade. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I've got a Wolverine; it's one of dozens from when I was in my puukko phase -- I'd been reading a series of books where the main character carried a puukko. Kellams are very good, but you can't beat the value of Mora blades -- they hold up VERY well, but are just about cheap enough to be considered disposable.

I experienced a similar kerambit period. However, I only bought one choora when I read a book where one was featured, although I looked for a good while -- they're hard to find, usually antique and quite pricey, and I find the their handles to be very uncomfortable. That's also why I bought a Spyderco Harpy, it was the knife used by Hannibal Lecter in the book "Hannibal".

That may be when you need them the most. When people are out of work, crime rates historically increase.

That is quite the list.

I won't let anyone call me excessive anymore.

I maintain a Bussekin Excel spreadsheet of what I bought, from whom, for how much, and when. I haven't traded often, but when I do, I make negative entries to represent what I traded and create an entry for the incoming knife at the cost of the outgoing ones. I was reluctant to go to the trouble of setting it up, but it's come in quite handy when I can't recall some of those details.

1/3 of my Scrap Yard knives came from the last Knob Creek show -- I went a little nuts, but you've got to grab while the gettin's good. As far as I know, some of the blades I bought are unique (at least in the civilian sector, I assume that they were overruns rather than one-offs). It certainly made for an expensive month, but I'd be regretting letting them slip away if I hadn't taken them home.

Cool, what book were you reading? I think it's safe to say I will never own a Mora. They are ugly as sin IMHO and I'm more interested in how the knife looks than how inexpensive it is. Especially since the hardest most of them get used is in their photoshoot.

FWIW, we've spent a similar amount on knives in the last year or so, but I think I've spread myself around a bit more. Bussekin, BRKT, Ranger, A&A, and a bunch of customs. Let's not forget the tomahawks and axes. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/paperbag.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />

"Dies the Fire" by S.M. Stirling, which was followed by "The Protector's War" and "A Meeting at Corvallis". I found the basic premise, that something changes physics so that fast exothermic reactions are slowed, but slower chemical reactions are unaffected to be very weak. However, if you can get past that explanation for why technology suddenly fails and just consider it a post-apocalyptic, build a new world kind of adventure, it's pretty good. The main character, Michael Havel, sometimes goes off on a tangent about his Finnish heritage, which is where I first heard of a puukko.

Kerambits were the favored weapon of Lazlo Mourn in "The Musashi Flex" -- it was the latest in Steve Perry's Matadora series. Where I'd say that the "Dies the Fire" series was OK, I'd unreservedly recommend the Matadora series, although many of them are out-of-print and hard to find. "The Musashi Flex" is excellent, but my favorite in the series is "The Man Who Never Missed"; some volumes in the series are better than others, but on the whole, it's a great story line.

I don't have very many Moras, but on a pure utilitarian, price-to-performance basis, they can't be beat. I prefer arctic birch handles and laminated blades (I own several Helle's from that time), but back in my pre-Busse days I considered them to be expensive. I've seen some of the pictures you've posted -- you've got some beautiful high-end steel.

I suspected that was your inspiration for the kerambit. I agree with you about it being a great series. It definitely piqued my interest in kali. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

A great place to get out of print books is http://www.alibris.com

This site has made finding out of print books almost to easy. I spent months trying to complete my collection of the Horseclan novels. I'd stop at every used bookstore I'd come across and usually find one or two I didn't have. Then I found this site and ordered the 10 I was missing.
