We picked up Mom's car -- she ended up paying cash; borrowing $7500 paid back over three years was going to cost almost $800 in interest and fees. She had the money and isn't making jack in interest. I told her that if she's concerned about rebuilding her savings, add the amount she won't be paying on a monthly car loan to what she saves.

On the way home, a raccoon was running along the side of the road about a block from my house; as we were passing it, it veered into the car. It didn't hit hard (judging by the sound), but I wanted to go see if it was OK. Mom didn't want to stop, but when she got to my house, she said, "You're going to walk back there, aren't you?" I said yes, so she went back -- her point was that we weren't going to try to capture a wounded animal by hand and take it to the vet, and if it was dead, going back wouldn't make any difference. My point was that not knowing was going to bother me and I hoped it hadn't been injured and had run off. It was gone and we didn't see any blood, so I'm considering it OK.

We've got raccoons, groundhogs, tons of squirrels, mice (that get into my house in Winter -- yuck!!), opossums, and I've seen foxes and a coyote in my neighborhood. Their habitat along the Ohio river has been developed -- I feel sorry for them, but I also don't want them ripping into my house to make a den, so I guess sorry isn't worth very much.

I tried to find something about Matt Kenseth intentionally crashing AJ Allmendinger in yesterday's race at Phoenix. Lots of NASCAR fans have blogged their opinion that there should be serious penalties, but NASCAR remains silent.

In my opinion, since Kenseth has been mathematically eliminated from having a chance to win the chase this year, parking him for the last race would be meaningless. Instead, he should be parked for next year's opener at Daytona. However, given that there's been no official acknowledgment of the incident by NASCAR, my guess is that he'll get off no penalty whatsoever. I guess Bill France was wrong when he used to say, "Nobody's more important than the show."; apparently Matt Kenseth is.

I've been following the SilverBullets Avatar complaint. I don't think the avatar is so much the issue as that somebody anonymously complained to the mods. I've got to say that I haven't always appreciated choices made by everyone here, some of the user names push the limits of good taste, things have been said that I disagree with, but if I've got a problem where I think something needs to be said, I'll take it up with that person directly. I would likely post about it (and have when I've been angry enough) rather than handling it by PM, which is probably more appropriate.

I think the anger levels will decline and things will get back to normal, but I don't believe this would have been as much of a problem if someone had dealt with SB one-on-one rather than bringing in the mods. I think PK tried to keep it low-key and friendly, but SBs temper flared (and his avatar flamed) in a way that simply didn't have to happen. Do pictures of a woman need to be dressed in a burka, or what?

Vance, I'm not sure that it's quite the same thing -- Dan said that HE didn't think your avatar was appropriate. Dan didn't ask somebody else to tell you to change it. I may be off-target, but I think it was the tattling aspect that angered SB, at least that's what would have offended me.

I agree that blowing up was a over-the-top; it would have been classier to just change the avatar quietly rather than call attention to the issue. However, if someone has a problem with me, I'd expect them to step forward and say they have a problem, not report me. I don't want to perpetuate the discussion but that's what I was trying to get at.

4d looks familiar (While it's labeled as simply an ASH-1, I think it may be a skinny ASH -- I bought a skinny in exactly that color combo for that price at Knob Creek -- I hoped that mine was unique). I'm going to have to ask if that one is skinny or standard.

i'm luckily not very in love with anything in the ganza, except maybe ash1 4c. i never use my ash with the HR, SarQ, and RAK around.

i also haven't yet ordered a SOD. it may not happen. if only that stupid jerk hadn't waved down that stupid driver in front of me...
