That's what I told her. My experience was similar except that I had a starter motor go out within 30-days of buying the car (so it should have been covered anyway, but I had the extended warranty). The Toyota dealer's service department then tells me that they charge more for the starter motor than the warranty they sold me covers. So, I still had to cough up money for a repair that was covered under the full, bumper-to-bumper extended warranty that the dealer sold me. I was quite angry. Even though I got a couple hundred out of a policy that I recall cost me nearly 2 grand, it was a bad experience (as well as a waste of money).
However, even though she listened to me, Mom's planning to retire in a few years and worries about unexpected expenses, so she decided to buy the coverage. Now that the insurance contract appears to be different than what she was told though, she's having second thoughts.

I figured that since you didn't follow up on the initial proxy question, you must have been able to participate. I'd need to look back to make sure, but I don't remember you saying what color grips you were looking for, so I just considered it a feeler, not an actual request.

The problem with extended warranty is that you are totally at their mercy. Just because you have it doesn't mean that everything is cover. Why have it if you "might" have to pay for the repair later on? and plus, dealership charge 3x if not more than the normal repair shop...

I hope you get them. I was actually thinking about going out to price a decent, but not too expensive 1911 today, but I just surfed for info instead. Lots of folks like the Taurus PT 1911, although Rock Island Armory is probably the "best value", basic, no-frills 1911 in current production. I'd probably look for a either a RIA or a Springfield GI; the Springfield is a bit more expensive and generally considered slightly better, but it largely depends on who's writing the review -- RIA has a lot of fans.

Reconseed is the next in the JYD line with 986 posts. He's been silent for a while, but I just saw his post in the "Forum Behavior" thread, so I guess he's back.

I've been moving up in posts while I've been on vacation -- that ends tomorrow though. I'll try to check in at lunch if I get a chance, but I expect to be quite busy. In addition to "real work" it's review time and I hear that we're supposed to attend training about setting goals. My goal is to do what I need to to get by for another year -- they can't tell me what they're going to need me to work on during the next year, but I'm supposed to come up with at least 6 goals to support it, and next year's performance will be evaluated based on the completion of those goals.
I also saw an email about needing to sign "Conflict of Interest" statements, and that they are changing our 403B plan administrator from Diversified Direct to Fidelity Investments, so I have to attend their presentation and reallocate my contributions by the end of next week (a 403B is like a 401K, but I work for a non-profit, so the number's different).

Jim, I was thinking about doing the ganza but just don't have that kind of money right now. The BAD's look awesome! I've always had the hots for the old school SJ's. It's hard with all this sweet gear around. I'm still saving up for a new Kifaru pack which will put me back about 600 bones.

That is an expensive pack!! I don't backpack (except for the pack/carry on I take stuff to and from work in), and even when I did it was just little day-hikes, but I've never spent more than $50 on a pack. The last packs I bought were Gerber Evader hydropacks that were clearance priced at $21.50. Those Kifarus must be something special -- you wouldn't spend that much if they weren't.
I requested three knives, preferably a combination of FSHs 13B and 13C. If less than three of them are available, I asked to substitute Military Overrun "3B2" ASH-1s (12A) for up to two of those. I sent my email within 2-minutes of the GO, which isn't terrible, but it's slower than I usually am. If I get my first choice, it'll be $1136 + S&H; if not, it'll be less, possibly even $0 if I don't get anything -- all I can do now is wait and see. There was a time, not so long ago, when I'd have said no sane person would spend that much for a knife; I guess I'm less sane now.

Well, I'm still wide awake from the 'ganza, but if I don't turn in soon, I'll be in no shape for the work I need to do tomorrow. So, time to call it a day.

So how exactly does the ganza work? Is the ganza to sell off overrun of knives?

The ganzaa's give provide some variety and make it a little more sporting. It keeps people interested and gives people a way to get particular blades outside of the batch release schedules. The prices are fairly in line with the CG and LE regular release prices but they are immediately available, although in very limited quantities. If you decided you wanted an SJTAC or Hell Razor(or anything else) you could try to get one in the Ganzaa and do a lot better than secondary market prices. They also have the fancy custom handles, different color combos, and usually a few variants of standard models.
