I thought you were joking. didn't really matter though becuase I was at work. I think if I got a 1911 it would have to be a Wilson Combat. My dad has a Kimber that he's happy with now but it choked like at least 50:1 more than anything I've ever owned. It wouldn't even run with the stock springs with hot or mild ammo. Now after the springs replaced and over 1000 rounds of testing ammo it almost runs ok.

If I was limited to $1k I'd probably go with a Springfield. If it was only for sport it would be an STI, Wilson, or Nighthawk.

I sure am glad someone touched on this ? WOW- here I sit with a lump of cash for great Busse steel and not a clue about any of this ? Sure feeling pretty dumb right now. picking a 1911 is like picking a car. It is very personal. what works for me might not work for you.

with that said, I'll give you my take...

The Colt combat commander XSE was my first 1911. It was expensive... $850+ some years ago. probably way over that right now. It is a very fine piece of machine. Everything works the way it is suppose to. the slide and frame is mated with very little rattle. it can probably out shoot me at 25 yards. very accurate to say the least. packs a decent punch but then again its a .45 <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

There is something about a 1911...I think every American should have at least one...
