I don't like the XD grip safeties either. it is unnecessary and a part failure would disable he weapon. however unlikely that is, I still see it as a little risk with no real reward.

I will admit they have better triggers than glocks out of the box, but once they break in, the difference is much smaller, if not reversed. Everything in the glock also feels more solid. I'd pick the Glock all day long, but the XD still gets a nod, especially if it fits you better.

My favorite pistol has a grip safety of sorts. HK P7 PSP. It easily outshoots anything else I've ever shot except maybe 1 tricked out 1911. I still like the glocks better though because they are user-servicable and parts are cheap, abundant, and interchangeable between most models.

I like my SA XD9SC. What don't you like about the grip safety?

I don't know, I just hear around that people don't like them in general. I wouldn't think it's a concern if the grip fits my hand well. Glad to hear Ted doesn't mind it.

I'm not sure how the finger grooves on the glock will fit my hand, but I can't pick one for sure until I hold them.

The 26 has the same spacing as the 17 minus a finger. The 19 has 3 narrower fingers. I have a 33(.357sig version of 26) and I like it but I think a 19 is a lot more practical if you are only going to have 1. Any of them will serve you well though.

That's another thing, I can't decide between the compact or subcompact until I hold the.

Cool. They're site doesn't list it, but I see dealers stocking it. The dark earth XDs are kind of cool to. I like all the colors (black, OD, & dark earth), but the deciding matter is going to come down to how it feels in my hands (and how it shoots if I get the oppurtunity).

I am only a 'ok' fan of glocks. Their durability is to be envied and accessories are very abundant. They are very easy to shoot accurately and are very size efficient.

Things I don't care for are the grip angle, its something that can easily be lived with. I feel that there are soo many nice pistols out there I don't need to deal with that particular limitation. I also find that they are a tad susceptible to limp wrist type malfunctioning.

For the record I don't currently have a Beretta. I don't care for the 92 series double stack grip width and I am not a fan of slide safety/decock levers.

I would not mind getting a Glock 34 but I am really interested in a M&P9pro or Taurus 24/7 OSS.

I hate the grip angle on every russian handgun, that sucks because they are so affordable that even I can buy 2 and play cowboy.
Best grip angle and ergos for me are on 1911's and glocks, as long as the 1911 doesn't hammer bite me.

I'm a diehard HK fan when it comes to "plastic" handguns. My USP compact shoots very well. The gun is not for everyone as it is somewhat top heavy due to the "plastic" frame and steel slide. The 1911 still feels better in hand. Not too bad for a 100+ year old design

I agree, the USP is a great handgun.
I like 1911's because they are proven, plus if the SHTF you can find replacement parts in your grandaddys closet.
Same reason why I'm ok with my Remmy 700 being in .270 instead of .308, because if the SHTF the military will be eating up all the .308 and .223 and alot of civilians use .270.
I have my 1911, 870, and 700, now I'm looking at a nice little carbine.
Think eather a M1 carbine or mini 14, what do you guys think?

I have quite a bit of 5.56 just in case zombies outbreak. I doubt you can get much more ammo if SHTF. Stock up on what you shoot the most. "The zombie survival guide" by MAX BROOKS discuss this in details. I take it out every now and then just to refresh my memories.

You should be find with those, but have enough to arm your other family members too. Get them something they can handle

I have both, and I like the finish and nostalgia of the M1 more even though I'm a die-hard Ruger fan. I appreciate the milled trigger guard over the stamped one of the Mini 14. I have a paratrooper stock for the M1 and it makes it tiny. The M1 was my grandfather's and he got it for about $16 back in the 50's. Auto-Ordinance is making the M1 albeit a little differently than original (lever safety, etc.) - not my cup of tea, but probably a fine rifle nonetheless.
