I've always heard that Ruger's heat treats are superb, and that they heat treat other makers' works (though I'm not sure whose). An article that sold me on Ruger's robustness was an NRA dopebag report on the P85 in which they intentionally plugged the barrel and fired it. The only things that were damaged were the barrel, of course, and the ejector (bent). The chamber held together and so did the rest of the gun.

You are going to waste some power with the short barrel but Ruger's can take really hot +P+ loads. Its a trade off for ease of carry I guess.
Better than nothing in bear country. What is a couple grains of powder when compared to the fireball-grinfactor? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
