I wasn't mocking him, only being amused at what appears to be a local sport. I might have been mocking the landscape a little, on the other hand.

Those out in the plains get to do some really long shots. Here in my little neck of the woods, 100 meters is a long shot.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

You know when your addicted to long range shooting when you take 10 mins to prep a shot...take it...then walk 1500 yards to see if you hit where you aimed. I used to do some daft things like that when I was younger....now I use sand on the ground so you can see your splashes and mark off some stone circles at given MOA sizes....but I only practise on none living targets....shooting foxes etc I try to keep my shots under 300 yards and at that range there is an element of certainty so the animal would never suffer. 1500 yards is about the maximum I can squeeze out of a .243 Ackley when moderated on a 30 inch barrel....over here 6mm/.243 is the maximum calibre for vermin control on the moors unless you are deer stalking with something bigger and happen across a fox...on that basis then technically I can use a 7mm Boo Boo out to about 1750/1800 yards again on a 30 inch barrel...but I have'nt got those barrels turned for a moderator so I stick with the .243 Ack and use Tubbs D-TAC bullets. There are too many people often on the Moors to make any loud noise. Sheeple will walk towards gunfire out of curiosity.....so a moderator helps from a safety point of view. My next job is to try to get one of my 7mm barrels cut for a moderator....but as a general principal I don't like hunting things which can be wounded at long range. Crows are my favourite target because if you hit them they are dead...it does'nt matter where...they basically "explode"...I have shot some crows with probably lucky shots at some very long ranges...one or two I have walked the rounds onto them...but I try to hit them with the first shot...it is good practise and helps the hill farmers when lambing time is here ( like now ). You can cover quite a number of fields at long distance up here on the moors... ![[Linked Image from i343.photobucket.com]](http://i343.photobucket.com/albums/o445/SteelFan-Infi/100_0427.jpg) One of the greatest times to be had in my view is watching the sun come up at dawn from a vantage point where you are waiting on passing foxes or crows...I usually listen to the radio on an ear piece and have a flask of tea handy whilst tucked into my bivi bag and sleeping bag waiting to see what happens...absolutely marvelous fun...

Flat-land entertainment? Get a pickup, some folding tables, some rifles, and a guy with a telescope, and shoot prairie dogs?
(I think I'll stick with hills and mountains and trees!) Yes, really fun. Talk about challenging go on a p-d0g shoot. The p-dog adults are about the size of a 20 ox soda. Figure in mirage, wind, and movement and it is fun!

If I lived in the area we were shooting I would for sure have something that reaches out and touches. The longest I ahve shot is around 800 yds and that is challenging to someone that does not have an oppt to shoot it on a regular basis. I don't mind my fun stuff getting made fun of or the diversity of my home state. All I know is that I might, and do, find other peoples idea of fun strange. Meat, no thank you. I wouldn't eat p-dog or jack rabbit (especially in the summer) but you can. Those stinking little buggers can carry the plague. It is funny to see farmers and ranchers faces when you volunteer to eradicate some p-dogs, they love it since the p-dogs cause a lot of problems and loss of livestock and property damage.
