Well done guys- the yard culture strikes again and a potential flame war runs out of steam with a figurative hand-shake! That's why the yard is a great place to buy knives, post and talk steel..

(Now you two go have some beers!)

Speaking of Beer I'm presently drinking "Snake Dog IPA" by Flying Dog Brewery. I only felt it appropiate to post it because of the dog connections to the scrapyard.

I have not heard of that beer. Is it a dark or light beer? I will need to get some and have it handy for my time on the forum!!!

IPA stands for Indian pale Ale. Colorwise it sits somewhere between an Amber ale, and the traditional golden yellow of many beers. However, it's considerably more hoppier and bitter. In addition it has a higher alcohol content, around 6%. It's a lot like a Sam Adams but a bit more dry and bitter.

Flying Dog brewery makes about 6 or 8 different styles of beer. However, I've only tried the IPA and their Amber ales so far.

Peace
Jerry

One of the things I most enjoy about hanging around the Yard [color:"red"] is the lack of pretentiousness that exists here. Perhaps it's because the Yard hasn't had time to develop a culture that thinks that the way it used to be is better than the way it is now. Perhaps it's because the affordability of the products produced here discourages [color:"red"] elitism. Perhaps it's because Dan & Patti are welcoming to newcomers and participate actively in the chat rooms. Or perhaps it's because those who are attracted to this place are [color:"red"]more interested in supporting each other than impressing each other.

Before I totally let this go...

I've bolded what probably got under Rat's skin. Got under mine a little too. For those who don't visit the Busse forum all that often, bld522 has been outspoken there lately about his dissatisfactions with the way things work, particularly with the Busse Company Store. He doesn't specifically say "Busse" in the above post, but the nod is there implicitly for folks who have watched him post on BF in the past week. Frankly, I'd rather bld522 at least have the cojones to name names and own up to what he means. Reading across forums, it sure looks like he got his feelings hurt in a recent thread on Fire Wardens and he came over here to lick his wounds and take a passing shot at the Busse folks. That's just not cool.

I don't think that pitting the sister companies and users of their knives against one another is very beneficial to the community as a whole. I enjoy coming here and talking knives, but I also like to chat with the Busse users and collectors. I'd like to feel that the different knife users have something to say to one another rather than feel like they're separated by "pretentiousness" and "elitism."

bld522, to suggest that your statements are NOT making certain comparisons is just plain disingenuous. One need go no further than the above-mentioned Fire Warden thread to see what I mean. Instead of keeping the argument there, seems you wanted to come over here and make a backhanded stab at the people with whom you were disagreeing. Again... not cool.

I agree with what Rat said earlier. If you like this forum, then shout it as loud as you like. However, please don't go dissing other people, even by insinuation, just because you don't like the way they get their knives.

It seems you're trying to spread the same kind of "us versus them" mentality that is beginning to infect Bladeforums. And I, for one, don't like it. I'd prefer that we all try to get along.

Having just read some of his posts on Bladeforums, I now recognize that he is simply trolling. (a continuation of a misguided campaign from Bladeforums) If he actually likes this forum, and doesn't just want to use it as his soap box, he will cut it out.

I stand by what I said. NO REGRETS! (Sound familiar?)

Sarcasm wins you few points.

But I think you maybe have some lingering regrets that you wanted to transport to the Yard, hoping you'd get affirmation.

You know, bld522, in that thread in question, Jerry offered to take up complaints or suggestions personally. He listed both a phone number and his personal email address at which he could be reached.

I wonder if you took him up on the offer.

I'd much rather you go that route rather than try to start up the same, old tired argument here in the Yard.

In the spirit of this post, I'm leaving this one alone now. I've said my piece.

Let's try to keep the Shop, the Swamp, and the Yard on good terms.

I think they are on good terms. After all, most of the members here are also members of the other company forums. I think it will take more than the actions of a single troll to mess that all up. . .

On the other hand, if Jerry finds his stock of JWB drained and covered with muddy paw prints. . . Lookout!
