According to my sources, the traditional technique of folding the sword steel over and over is totally obsolete. It was basically a way to come up with good quality steel from the really miserable and impure steel available in ancient Japan. In the modern age, we can get very high quality steel right out of the pot, so there's no need to clean it up before using it. Forging steel apparently does improve and strengthen it to a degree, but it doesn't need to be hammered and folded anything like 30 times to get that benefit...

Question for all of you: What is your favorite fixed blade in your collection, if you could only have one. MUK at the moment since it is the right size for about everything.
