lol...it's ten bucks. If you watch the knifetests beating it took, and wouldn't want to torture your high-end blades, you will want it just to beat the snot out of it.

And they sell 3 different profiles of it. I got the bowie but there is a bolo and a drop-point as well. I will get the other 2 later.

But it doesn't have a lifetime warranty, so when it's dead, it's dead. Kiss that $10 goodbye

If you read the linked telegraph article on the "spoon control" link, there is only one really important line - the last one. They contacted the manager, and he said it was most likely a mix up in the bar codes.
It's not any kind of law, or big brother, it's a moron retail employee who is running on auto-pilot because they have a worthless, miserable job. I worked my fair share of retail jobs in high school, and I spouted all kinds of BS to customers to shut them up, get them to leave, or make an excuse to save doing work.
To actually fix the problem, the retail clerk would have had to get a manager involved, hold up the line, wait for a fix, blah blah blah - or you can just make up some nonsense story and hope the customer just shows you the ID because she is as lazy as you.
This isn't big brother, it's the simple truth that retail employees will always be lazy, and retail stores will always screw up seemingly simple stuff. Nothing to see here, move along.

Agreed, but read the following comments. Those are the true meat of it.
This is comment #4 in response to #3
3. @2: Using this mistake at the checkout counter as proof would be like if they accidentally put in the wrong price and you used it as proof that they were trying to steal from you.
It doesn't "speak volumes" about anything. Posted by: demo kid on May 8, 2009 12:17 AM
4. demo kid, if you read the link you will see that it was more than just a bar-code mixup:
"The shop assistant reportedly informed the customer that someone had once been murdered with a teaspoon, and therefore age identification was now required. "
Again, only because of the extreme nanny-state culture could the clerk leap to that conclusion.
The brit knife bans have gone far beyond just restricting sales to minors. The knife I carry, a small William Henry penknife that weighs under one ounce, is illegal to carry in Britain due to its locking blade.
There is a general anti-knife hysteria there. There are police-run knife 'turn-in' programs, and there was even a recent proposal to ban kitchen knives with pointed ends, the argument being that the point is not necessary for kitchen work. Posted by: 6p01053690976c970c on May 8, 2009 03:17 AM

Wow that is nuts. I really hope that the UK can manage to get back out of the ditch some day, but the bus may already be overturned and the conflagration gone too far to fix it at this point.
