Is that 1" belt preferable to a 2" for the belt sharpening? It seems like a broader surface contact would provide more consistency? I have both a 1" and a 2". The 1" is what I started on and go back to to put a fine edge on. I find the 1" a touch easier for sharpening as there is less contact area to manage and thus less room for error - at least in my experience. You can find nice belts for the 1x30 and make a pretty good knife sharpener.
