if you want to be famous, call a news crew up to the hoover dam, smile then jump. you get your news time and no one else gets hurt.

now i see people calling for metal detectors at malls. totally unworkable idea.

My sympathies to the victims as well.

I fear things like this will get worse before they get better. Unfortunately we will all pay the price in the loss of freedoms.

I can't help but wonder, if there were more encouragement to let the good guys carry, would that help discourage or at least change the outcome a little.

Unfortunately you are probably not to far off the mark Freedom and liberty will no doubt become more restricted <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sad.gif" alt="" />..

Sadly many people are led to believe that "NO Guns Allowed" signs and 911 will protect them. Those who plan these acts have no regard or care for Laws. They also know that with the exception of off duty Leos no one will have a means to resist and factor in to that the time it takes for the Leos to respond and actually enter the building, the BG has way to much time on his hands.

Another factor is this BG did not plan on walking out.
Encouraging concealed carry and doing away with "gun free" zones might at least reduce the number of causalities.

Less restrictive CCW is a positive step in the right direction. But is the legal system willing to take that step......

Bors - I was just going to make that same post. Good call and great points.

"Gun Free" doesn't mean a @#$%$ thing to criminals, it just disarms the law abiding citizens who would have at least had a chance to get a few rounds in to that guy before he'd killed 8 people.

Fish in a barrel. Thats what it was like - same goes for the Virginia Tech shootings. I don't carry very often, even though I have a CCW, due to the number of "gun free" areas, where only the criminal will take a gun. Same with college campuses. I can see not having guns in the dorms, obviously, but to be a CCW holder and not be able to walk through campus or carry in class makes campus classrooms an excellent place to walk in and kill 30-50 people with little to no resistance.

I don't know why these kinds of mindless killings are occurring now. I think that maybe it has to do with all the violence young people see on TV and video games. Violence without consequences and no real death. When folks were more closely involved with nature I think there was more respect for life. But I'm just guessing. Maybe the kid was put on some mind altering drugs when he was in school because his teachers could not deal with normal male aggression. Whatever the reason for his horrible actions, it is very sad.

One local mall does not allow firearms on their property. Another local mall does, I shop at this one.

I don't think it is video games etc. It is more a disconnect from society.
There was plenty of violence before video games etc. What is also missing is a proper upbringing that socializes children and gives them a conscience. Sitting them in front of a TV is not going to do it for them.

Schools these days also fail to allow growing children to learn how to deal and manage aggression through the absolute zero tolerance on violence. No rough sports & insane responses to school yard fighting is not a solution to a perceived problem...

We have a zero touching policy at our schools here. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" />

Great way to teach them human compassion.
